Ohmy
The title pretty much sums it up: I'm thinking about asking the pdoc for an SSRI to help me fall & stay asleep. Lately, instead of being relaxing, going to bed has become more stressful than anything - hoping there's a med out there that could help me with this. I do exercise and have tried some relaxation techniques, but they really haven't helped all that much. e: Actually, I suppose an SSRI wouldn't be the best option, and reading the stickies, seems I should go for trazodone or mirtazapine... Alie Fireside
I have been on a SSRI for many yrs and the main reason is bc it does help me sleep better. Not in the way you are looking for, but bc I have such awful dreams. You could classify them as nightterrors minus the being consolable part. I have a serious fear of 'bedtime'. In fact, I go into a mild panic attack just mentioning the word to my kids when it is time to go to bed. I have tried Trazadone and found that it did not help the anxiety. Even though it did make me a little drowsy, it did not help with the anxiety about going to bed. Hope this was somewhat helpful for you.

olga
I think it might be better to go to your appointment with an open mind about what sort of drug would be helpful to you. If you describe your difficulties with sleep and relaxing, your doctor might suggest something that you haven't thought of. olga
Ohmy
Yeah, open-mindedness is definitely something I should practice in other areas of my life as well. Though I specifically talked about SSRIs (or antidepressants in general) cause I want to stay away from APs if at all possible. Anyway, called a nurse today, will see how that goes. Bought melatonin for now, kinda hoping that'll do the trick. e: also, should've probably posted this topic in the insomnia section, just realized it existed. Adam11
I definitely sleep like a champ on 50 mg of Zoloft. Sleep has never been a problem for me, but with Zoloft I need a good 9 hours to feel rested. Melatonin supplements are helpful for sleep. I used them a long time ago when I worked an overnight shift.
