How can I ask my doctor for different meds without sounding like an addict?

I really want to trade my adderal for desoxyn, but I don't know how to tell my doctor that. I'm afraid he will just give me nothing if I ask.

there's no harm in discussing a med change. the worst thing that could happen is your doctor will say he doesn't think it's a good idea. doctors get asked stuff like that all the time, so i doubt they will think you sound like an addict.

I think it's important to:

 

1. Go in being clear about the symptoms or side effects behind the trade.

2. Be able to listen to what the doctor says.

3. Explain why this is not a addiction issue and be ready to talk about any addictive past you have that might factor into your docs decision.

 

If you acknowledge that you fear being labelled as such but you do have a reason for asking and you are open to his assessment, that will look like the responsible patient doctor interaction your doc should be after. If your reasons are legit, you have nothing to fear, as long as you are honest.
