NullChamber
since iv been on Zyprexa i have noticed that my thoughts occassionally get "stuck" on certain ideas or images. for example, i might have an image of a commerical i saw on television in mind and its difficult to move beyond it. this s/e became more prominent when i bumped up the dose from 2.5 to 5 mg. at one point i became so fixated on an idea that it was like i couldn't seem to think of anything but that idea for a few seconds.. ever since then i seem to have been watchful for reminders of it happening again. id like to know whether this is a temporary side effect that will pass, because otherwise the medication is working really well in reducing agitation and other things. i haven't found any info showing Zyprexa to exacerbate OCD, if anything it treats it.. (not that I'm sure I have OCD). the med list below is current. Edited May 24, 2013 by NullChamber
eternalsun
You may want to consider switching antipsychotics. Another thing to consider is that antipsychotics can make those without psychosis develop symptoms- I say that because I was having thought problems with loxapine, and my doctor is tapering me off, leaving me just on an antidepressant. From day one after starting the taper off, my thoughts have been clear and I'm not having the problems. It may seem like you need a higher dose, but perhaps antipsychotics are not the drugs for you. Of course, speak with your doctor, don't just make changes on your own- I've been down that road and it never ends well. Best of luck.
