cfranco92
This sounds like a normal earworm sort of deal to me but maybe it may look like something else to someone else. Sorry if its causing you distress.
Cattitude
I've always had this. I notice it more when I'm going through a tough time emotionally. I will often have the same song going for days. Usually that song has something to do with the emotional issue. Example: when I dumped my ex, the Meat Loaf song "I would do anything for love" repeated in my head for days. Also, my brain starts making changes to the song, like changing the key or adding instruments or notes. Sometimes I can get rid of a song by listening to other music, especially something I like that I haven't heard in a long time. I also find that if I listen to a new song or album a few times, my brain plays the new songs back for a couple of days.

Alie Fireside
I've been dealing with that since childhood. I will usually play the song I have stuck in my head then randomize the other songs on my ipod. soon I have a different song in my head. for me it just cycles through many songs all day. quitter
There are certain songs I LOVE but can't listen to because I do play them over & over in my head for days & days & days. Also I can hear a certain sound, like the Beep Beep Beep of heavy equipment backing up...and that is like an introduction to this song: Oh..My...Pappa.... for some reason as sung by Gomer Pyle...also...certain files at work...there is a Toms file - when I work on it I sing "Ground control to Major Tom..." over and over. So I dunno. Edited May 24, 2013 by quitter
Dusk
I've had this since childhood. Thought it was normal. Sometimes it will be the same song for days before it changes songs.
mdh83
ok thank you all does anyone know if it could be a neurological problem?
Wooster
Unfortunately nobody here is qualified to answer that question. Determining if an issue is primarily neurological vs primarily psychiatric in nature requires face to face evaluation by qualified health care providers. A good place to start would be your primary care provider and ask for a referral if needed.

ohheywhatsup
This happens to me all the time. It's so "normal" for me I don't even notice it anymore. There's always a snippet of a song going through my head. Usually something I have listened to recently, or before bed that sticks with me. wj74
A lot of people say they get it too but I'm not sure it's the same as what I have. Mine doesn't stop even in bed at night and is usually 2 lines of a song on repeat. Right now it's "Valentine's Day by Green Day, I don't really like the song but its there. melissaw72
Same with me, the song repeats 1-2 lines over and over until I just fall asleep. When I wake up another song is in my head almost immediately.
Jaytea
My brain does the same thing. i get words & sentences stuck in my head, too. For me, it's just another way my OCD manifests itself. Happens when I'm feeling anxious.

Jaytea
Whenever my brain gets unfocused, the song "Rock the Boat" by the Hues Corporation starts running through my head. I like that earworm, luckily.

Sync
I get both songs and words/phrases really aggressively stuck in my head much like you described, to the point where I can't concentrate properly on anything else. It's often accompanied by compulsions. Tdoc says it's part of my OCD.

DreamTheater81
I get this a lot. Sometimes it's the most random, bizarre song that gets stuck in my head. Just the other day I had a stupid jingle from a radio commercial stuck in my head, and I was having a hard time concentrating!

The worst for me are the commercials on TV whose jingles get stuck in my head. Or things like nursery rhymes.
Thundere
mdh83, Been there myself. Can listen to full songs without having to turn on the LP record. Know how annoying it can be sometimes. If you get this right from after hearing a song, it might be explained as an "ear-worm", if it's not... then, it might be from OCD, yes.
AverOblivious
ear worms are the worst. i have them like 100% of every freaking day, then one second i'd be like 'oh my gosh... am i not hearing anything...?' then i would feel really good about myself only to jinx it shortly after. when it gets really annoying, it tends to get elevated around repetitive or hollow sounds like a fan - or air conditioning, or a ringing noise. in which case labelling the different things i can hear and describing them physically, helps minimize it when its severe. maybe a balanced thought can always help ? - i try to label it the '<the band name> music thought', and that it's just a thought, and telling myself that i'm not really actually hearing it in my ears, it's all just a thought, and i have control over my thoughts. like if i were to imagine popcorn in my thoughts, doesn't mean i can eat that popcorn so hearing music in my thoughts, doesn't mean i can physically hear it. or accept it and let it go; like describing what you're feeling (in precise detail) when it comes to that song - like the 'it gives me a warm feeling above my stomach, and my chest is tight and lowering, and it makes me feel guilty and ashamed' etc etc or maybe it relates to some unresolved anxiety issue you're having - like it may be sad, because you're sad. it may be angry, because you're angry. so as long as those issues remain unaddressed, the song stays circling in your mind. in which case, where you resolved that anxiety, the song can also be let go of. other than that, i would also suggest what another said, where you try multiple songs - one thing i noticed is that when i look at the name of a song - and stare at it for a while (one that i know), on my computer, it somehow gets stuck in my head. i don't know, it's a weird ocd memory thing i have, and if you have it too, then i would recommend just setting aside some time to go down your music playlist and try to have as much different associations to repetitive songs as possible. this will allow your brain to get more used to hearing different noises, and i dunno but my psychologist suggested that can help nullify its effect on the conscious in some way or something like that. ananke
urgh yes! the worst is when you dont even know what the songs called, and you spend the whole day with an unknown song in your head. right now its 'dont leave me this way' by thelma houston
LAF
I have bits of music repeating but also just notes in phrases like a beat in a song. Don't even know how long I've had it but sure would like it to end.
Poem
I have problems with racing thoughts, and a frequent player in that mix is music. I will bounce through snatches of songs effortlessly without finishing any of them completely. Start a song, go to the next, go to the next, go to the next, repeat to infinity. I have to take an antipsychotic to calm my brain down. Anyway, not saying that that is what is going on with you, but if you feel something isn't right, you might mention it to your provider. Never hurts. However, the phenomenon isn't uncommon (as most poster's here testified) for people to get a song stuck in their head. It can happen to me on normal days too! Good luck, Poem
Catwoman
I have stuck words. There's one I hate the most and which is my main problem. But I also can have words stuck in my head which sound strange or interesting to me. Like names or pieces of a longer word. It goes away after a few hours. I just need to focus on something else and not care too much about it. Sometimes when I'm just doing normal things my brain will repeat a sentence a few times. It is like my brain wants to emphasize something. Most of the time it's not even important. I'm not unfamiliar with stuck songs like earworms, but I think I have 'brainworms'. And the more I resist, the more my brain get conditioned on repeating it. I hope an anti-psychotic will help. I just want some silence in my head. Persona_Is_Life
I get this. God is it annoying. I have ADHD, but it's like my brain has ADHD on it's own on top of mine. It has to keep busy. Sometimes I'll have parts of two songs repeating over and over. This happens a lot. I never thought to connect it to OCD. If it's OCD, maybe I'll go back on Clomipramine.
