Do you track what meds you started taking, when you started taking them, doses, etc? I'm on relatively few and still find it a daunting task. I would love some suggestions. Do you use a spreadsheet? Calendar? Scratch hashmarks on bedroom walls?

It's free to sign up, so there is no harm in it.

They have a LOT of trackers but mostly I use the ones that track treatments - doses, side effects, start and stop dates, efficacy - and the mood tracker and symptom tracker.  Just sign up for a free account and poke around.

I sit down every week and fill the pill boxes.  Otherwise I would never remember to take every single pill, the correct dosage and at the correct time.

I chart as well, but really only get detailed about the PRN's and how they played into my mood.  Everything else I take as prescribed, so no need to go into detail with everything.

I use pill boxes to organize meds.

I haven't tracked when I started taking meds/dose/etc, but keep track of current meds and doses I am on.  I have a list of meds and doses and when taken in my wallet and another place for quick reference.

I like to have the list of start and stop dates etc. in case I have to change doctors or go for a consult.  It helps to be able to show them exactly what I took and when.

I have a datebook that I use for everything--birthdays, when we get paid, when bills are due, appointments, etc.--and because I'm a nerd everything's color-coded; I have a color specifically for medication stuff and I always log medications on the day I start or stop them, their dosages when a dosage increases or decreases, and I list any notable side-effects in the "notes" section. As much as I like tracking apps like Optimism and patientslikeme, it seems less out-of-the-way for me to just log everything at the same time as I'm logging days off and when to buy groceries. I'm also more likely to look at recent drug history that way, too.

I so need to do this. It seems obvious now, but wouldn't you know, I never thought to have a quick-ref sheet for my wallet.

I started a spreadsheet a while back that I actually used when I applied for SSDI that detailed all the meds I had tried, along with therapy, hospitalizations, etc just to put everything in one place. We ended up moving out of state to a new area and it was REALLY helpful to have that information to take with me when I was looking for new providers.

I'm trying it out. There's a lot there and it's overwhelming so I'm filling it out piecemeal. It may be more than I actually need but I'm gonna stick with it for a bit and see how it works.

I was thinking about a spreadsheet before I tried the site tryp mentioned. If that one is too much I may do that.

It's a lot more than I need too - I only keep a few small sections updated.  I don't do the instant mood or the social functioning one or the side effects - lots of stuff.  I really only do mood map and treatments.  It was overwhelming at first but now I'm really glad to have it.

Either way, I hope you find something that works for you.

  • 2 weeks later...

I use a pill box to set out my meds each week. As far as keeping track of start/stop dates of past meds, I don't do that anymore because there were just too many. Probably somewhere around 30+ meds alone and in combination at this point. I do remember every med I've tried, so I can instantly recall which ones should a pdoc ask me. I did keep a record of stop/start/side effects before/during the SSDI application process because I needed the documentation, but that was a loooooong time ago.
