Obsessively anxious with a side of depression

Recommended Posts

I've struggled with generalized anxiety for over a decade. I typically obsessively worry about one or two things at once until they become all-consuming. It got much worse once I bought my first house, obsessively worrying about all the catastrophic things that could go wrong.

I was not dealing with my anxiety well, and things came to a head back in July where I had a sort of breakdown. Without warning, I was incredibly anxious, like nothing I'd felt before, then fell into a deep depression that I'm still trying to get out of. I had to take time out of work, and I went to a partial hospitalization program for 6 weeks. It definitely helped, I am on new medication now (dropped Celexa and got on Prozac), and my anxiety seems to be doing better, and I'm back at work now.

I'm still having a real hard time, though. I can't focus on things at work. During my depression, I developed really bad intrusive thoughts which still haunt me daily. I feel like my emotions are dulled, like I don't care about stuff like I used to. I still have a long way to go before I'm back to how I used to be.

I'm fortunate enough to have a wife who understands anxiety. She went through a similar bout where she was out of work for 3 months due to really bad anxiety. However, our relationship is strained because all I talk about is my depression, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts.

I thought joining a site like CrazyBoards would be a good outlet for me to talk about some of this stuff.
