the United States of shame

Recommended Posts

I noticed they were "reaching" in going for "nerdiest" as  something shameful, and thought "ugliest" (state, or people?) was not much of a category either.

I did register a frisson of amusement at seeing the Mormon state of Utah had the highest porn use.

When it says "tornadoes" for Minnesota, are they trying to say it has the most or that it deals with them the worst? Because Minnesota definitely doesn't have the most tornadoes annually.

And what's with Georgia being "most sickly" and Kansas having the "poorest health?" Am I missing something? What's the difference?

And how is New Mexico the most "anti-social?" What does that even mean?

Maybe I should stop picking this apart...but I can't.

And I've only been to Mass. once, so I can't really comment on how badly people drive. But if they're any worse than drivers in Virginia, god help them.

I'm still not over the fact that I can't understand a map of my own country without labels on most states. . .

I managed to find my own. Ha ha. Actually, some of them I identified BY those shame labels. Like Oregon.

I was sad to see Alaska's, really. That's actually real as well.

Welp, off to study a map. What I really learned from all of this is that I suck at geography.

I just moved to Utah, and I knew that fact.

He was from Utah, but of course.

I wonder if whomever labeled the states was osmeone who just based it all on their experiences, rather than a collective group of people.  MA has bad driving, but mainly in Boston.  I haven't been to every town, but suburbs it isn't bad.  IMO NJ has the crappiest drivers, aside from the high taxes.

I defend the honor of my state.  I don't accept that we have the highest rate of bestiality.  There was a horrible case in 2005 involving a man who died having sex with a horse.  And the newspaper story in the Seattle Times about that abomination was the most read article in it's 109 year history.
