revlow
Wow! No I never heard of that. I'd be very concerned, for the exact reason you are. revlow (former Effexor user, for approx. 15 yrs.)
Velvet Elvis
As in 150/300/150/300 or 300/0/300/0? Are you on the SR or standard?
revlow
As in 150/300/150/300 or 300/0/300/0? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Good question! I hadn't even thought of that. I just figured Ammity meant 300 one day, 0 the next, and so on. Which I'd be very cautious about. On the other hand 300 one day, 150 the next might not be such a problem (though it still seems pretty steep). I wish I could remember whether I did this (something akin to the 150/300 schedule) as I was titrating up on it (to a ultimate dose of 450), but it was so long ago I can't. Come to think of it, I doubt it. I was in one of the original open drug studies of Effexor and I believe in that situation, they would have had me simply take 225 mg each day. But maybe the thinking is different now? Are you on the SR or standard? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Is SR the same as XR? (XR is what Ammity refers to in the title of this topic.) In my lengthy history with Effexor, I used the standard version and then the XR when it came out. I found I had severe problems with the XR just as much as the standard if I should miss a dose. So, at least for me, that made no difference. Which is why, IMHO, I'd think a steady daily dose is probably a better way to go. On the other hand, if there is a newer "SR" version I'm not aware of I could just be spewing misinformation. (Not sure if this helps, Ammity!) Are you on the SR or standard? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am on the XR and yes 150/300/150 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The only sane reason to do this that I can think of is he's planning to bump you up to perhaps 300 every day? Maybe 225? Nah! Probably 300 every day. Very unorthodox (I have no idea how to spell that)! Don't you ask where he's going? Is there a plan? Probably 300 every day. Very unorthodox (I have no idea how to spell that)! <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Even if he is aiming to bump up to 300, it would make more sense to go to 225 as an intermediate step. Which, of course, would just mean adding a 75 mg. pill to the 150 mg. you are already taking. Jafco: Once again, I am in agreement with you! It does seem unorthodox. Wyeth's own prescribing info says: "Dose increases should be in increments of up to 75 mg/day, as needed, and should be made at intervals of not less than 4 days." Hope you can get this worked out with your doc. In the meantime, if you only have the 150 mg. capsules you may want to divide some in half, so you can add 75 mg. to your usual 150 mg. each day. revlow
Greenyflower
It could also be an insurance thing. When I was on Effexor, I could get 90 of the 75 mg XR for my 225 per day dose, but if the doc had prescribed 30 75s and 30 150s I would have been charged for two scripts. (I was able to get them pretty liberally from my doc as recently as this Spring.)
Velvet Elvis
Yeah. I'm sure it's just a matter of pill availability or something like that. 150/300/150/300 keeps your blood serum at the same level as if you were taking 225 every day, except you don't have to worry about different sizes of pills if you're in the middle of tapering up to 300. I've heard of that kind of alternating being used for tapering off of effexor, so it stands to reason that it can be used in tapering up as well.
