Puddles2009
Hey guys, so basically they've got me on the combo in my SIG below, yeh it seems to work great. Apart from playing around with the sleeper... Howeveer the PDOC wants to increase the doses and that means side effects for me, i've told him but i'm on a community treatment order so i get no choice and that means they will not only be giving me regular meds but meds to counter act symptoms of side effects On top of that those meds have side effects so i'll be getting meds for them side effects too.. When is it going to actually stop I'm on a good combo right now apart from my sleeper how can i go about fighting against this I'm happy to take my 3 morning meds 2 night meds i dont wanna be on 10+ a day
Guest
You need to do whatever it takes to get and remain stable. If that means 20 pills a day, that's what you need to do. Sometimes the SEs are such that you can manage without additional meds. Sometimes they aren't. Is this in reference to your other thread about weight gain? If so then you're probably talking about needing to add Metformin. That's a pretty common addition to your cocktail if you're on an AAP.
mcjimjam
Sometimes when a med is the cornerstone of your treatment, like a mood stabiliser for someone with BP, its role is important enough that it's better to take another med to deal with side-effects than to ditch the med. Meds being used to treat side-effects don't have as much of an important role, so if they aren't tolerated they're more likely to be discontinued. It's just about risk vs. benefit. Say you take lithium and it works but you get a tremor, bipolar outweighs the tremor, so you're given beta-blockers for the tremor. Maybe you get impotence from the beta-blocker, that outweighs the tremor so you'd probably be taken off the beta-blocker and tried on another one, or else just put up with the tremor. I'm not sure I made any sense there, but what I'm trying to say is that people don't generally end up on meds to treat side-effects of meds that were prescribed to treat side-effects of another med. So don't worry too much. It isn't the slippery slope it seems. Edited December 2, 2013 by mcjimjam
Phoenix_Rising
I take a few meds just for side effects. If a med combo is working for you, then it makes sense to treat the SEs. Of course there is a tipping point, but, for me, its well worth the extra meds to have stability.
wj74
I would take extra meds to get rid of side effects any day, as opposed to switching up my cocktail and having to go IP.
