Puddles2009
Hey guys so it's 38C degrees today a little bit warm and i've notice on my new meds i get heatstroke very easily... Whenever out in the heat before i was medicated i used to do gardening no worries at all, now i am on meds i feel instantly dizzy, sick in the stomach and very tired and very hot and frustrated. Does anyone know if meds affect heat response or sunlight response? and what med might be causing it? Because this has cost me a new job... hagar
I think it's well-known that Invega can make people extra sensitive to heat. Not sure about your other meds. It's probably best to stay out of the heat as much as you can, and stay hydrated and in shade if you have to be outside for long periods of time. From: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a607005.html - you should know that paliperidone may make it harder for your body to cool down when it gets very hot. Tell your doctor if you plan to exercise or be exposed to extreme heat. Edited December 12, 2013 by hagar running

melissaw72
Have you gotten your thyroid checked? Before my hyperthyroidism was diagnosed, I was so hot, even in the winter months. I'd be in a t-shirt in the dead of winter with no coat. And the summers were even worse; harder to cool down.
Puddles2009
Maybe i am taking too much Paliperidone, what is normal amount for a male who is 105kg and 184cm tall Thyroid, yes the levels were lower as a result of the medication Edited December 12, 2013 by Puddles2009
crtclms
A lot of anti-psychotic, typical and atypical, make it difficult for your brain to control your core temperature. I'm not on an AAP, but *something* I am on makes me get heat sick really quickly. Your dealing with meds that interact with the core functions of the brain; sometimes the side effects are broad. mcjimjam
Antipsychotics may all have body temperature dysregulation listed as a side-effect, but that doesn't mean that you will necessarily experience this problem no matter what dose or which AP you're taking. It's probably just a matter of your pdoc adjusting the dose or changing to a different med, so you can cope better with heat. I worked in cafes and restaurants while on antipsychotics and I was fine, so don't give up your dream just yet.

hagar
That sucks and all, but you won't be able to work any kind of job if you're psychotic. Maybe i am taking too much Paliperidone, what is normal amount for a male who is 105kg and 184cm tall I don't think there is a "normal" amount for any particular height/weight. I think the standard dose is 6-9mg, but I was on the max dose of 12mg for a long time. It's whatever your doctor thinks is best.
