So I am lactose intolerant. Not a big deal, I mean so many people are. I guess I will try soy milk. Seems like the most logical idea, right?

Uh, apparently not.

I know I am gluten intolerant as well, but my biggest part of gluten is wheat & processed sugar. Well I found out the past few weeks, I am also soy intolerant. Well atleast in large quantities (like soy milk).

I have discovered that soy milk gives me similar symptoms to cows milk, as well as added symptoms that are similar to wheat.

And at this point, I am running out of options.

  • Almond & Cashew Nut milk are out, considering my upmost disgust for anything nutty.
  • Oat milk is out, considering I am intolerant to some oats.

I have been doing some idea searching, and the possible options I have found include:

  1. Animal Milks (Sheep, Goat, & Buffalo) which can be expensive
  2. Hemp Milk which is just weird? And can taste just as nutty as Almond Milk
  3. Rice Milk which is the best option, but sounds awful

Any suggestions, or words of encouragement?

How do you go with lactose free milk? You can usually buy it in the supermarket.

Rice milk is okay. I don't like it much and I'm not much of a nut fan. Store bought almond milk is gross but I find making it fresh myself at home it's much nicer and not nutty at all. Hazelnut milk can be nice depending on what you put it on (again if you make it yourself much better, it's not too hard, if you have a blender or food processor just whizz about half a cup of nuts with 4 cups of water and strain through one of those clean blue chux cloths, add a bit of vanilla or sweetener if you like but they don't need it).

I know you can buy grain milks now too. I think there's millet and quinoa although I haven't tried them.

I agree with the lactose free milk ... there is a milk called Lactaid that has no lactose in it, and tastes exactly like regular milk.  They even make chocolate flavored.  Also, there are pills called Lactaid pills, that you can take before eating dairy, and they are supposed to help you digest dairy.  Not sure how well they work, but just thought of them as I was writing this.

Lactaid milk is really great! I was worried about it at first, but it actually tastes like milk, isn't a weird consistency like some other non-milk options, and it's really easy to find. My local CVS even has it sometimes. As for the Lactaid pills, they work a little bit for me, but not completely. They make me able to tolerate small amounts of lactose, like in cheese (Thanks god! I can't live without my cheese!), but the pills aren't good enough for me to tolerate regular milk or ice cream. Maybe that's just me, though. They may work better or worse for others.

I did buy the Lactaid milk! And you are right, it is a much better taste & consistency as if regular 2% milk. I tried rice & almond milk, but both were not only odd in taste but had a incredibly thin consistency (to which was more bothersome than the taste!).

And this morning, I had a bowl of GF cereal with Lactaid Milk and felt satisfied (not hungry 10 minutes later) & I had no lactose issues! Very excited
