Puddles2009
Hey guys so it seems i am going to stay on a combination of Benzos for a while yet. Right now i am on 10mg Valium and 10mg Temaze but once my Temaze runs out in 2 weeks time they want to put me on a new Benzo. They find a combination of Benzos helps me sleep more than just 1 What are some other Benzos that might act great for muscle relaxing and sleep aid?? Once i fall asleep i stay asleep for a long period of time 8 hours or so. My problem is actually falling to sleep. I have 2 weeks to figure it out, the doctor has asked me to do some research as i guess they are been lazy sorta..
malachite
Have you tried a non-benzo sleep aid like Ambien? I find it helps me get to sleep more than stay asleep, and since that seems to be your problem, perhaps that would help.
Puddles2009
Thanks i will write it down to ask my doctor Monday any other suggestions?
netsavy006
I don't know if this will help you, but when I had sleep troubles years ago, the doctor prescribed Lunesta. Worked very well for me. Knocked me out in minutes and I (fortunately) had no side effects, though I've heard people get metallic taste. I'm told drinking orange juice with it can help reduce that side effect. mcjimjam
Serepax is the benzo that works best for me as a sleep aid. I haven't tried Mogadon but it seems to be used a lot for sleep, too.
jt07
Have you considered a non-benzo low-dose of mirtazapine (Remeron)? It is an antidepressant, and I know that you have bipolar, but if you are stable on mood stabilizers maybe it wouldn't be a problem. It couldn't hurt to ask your pdoc. If you can sleep on benzos, I'm sure you would sleep on Remeron.
Puddles2009
I will write down all these options and ask my doctor, see she agrees to keep me on both Temaze and Diaz but lower the dosage and increase mood stabiliser, but she said the new doctor may not give me benzos and my sleep problems will come back she said since i have had years and years of bad sleep pattern you cannot fix it overnight So far Ambien looks best for me i will ask monday about it Edited December 14, 2013 by Puddles2009
CeremonyNewOrder
You could also try non-benzos like trazodone, doxepin, and Seroquel.
Puddles2009
Ambien looks like the best reviewed one so far with very few side effects due to it's short half life, couple thart up with valium and i think i'll be in for a good night sleep My problem is more falling asleep rather than staying alseep The valium keeps me asleep for a solid 7-8 hours with no hangover effect
melissaw72
Have you tried anything OTC like benadryl or melatonin? Maybe you can bring these up with your DR also if you want to try them.
Puddles2009
OTC doesn't work for me, i may as well be popping smarties with those OTC meds I will ask about Ativan and Ambien Edited December 14, 2013 by Puddles2009
Guest
You should look into Melatonin. It is OTC but it's different than the typical OTC sleep med. It works like a charm on hubby and the boy. I was sort of surprised how well it worked with them. If you have trouble getting to sleep it may very well take care of the problem for you. Hubby takes a time released version since he has trouble staying asleep as well as getting to sleep.

Guest
Melatonin isn't OTC in Australia fwiw, you can however import it from America very easily. (its not a scheduled medication, importing it is legal).
HAL9000
I use Ambien CR It puts me to sleep and the CR part keeps me that way until morning. I take Valium (as needed) and asked my GDoc about taking both before bed and she was pretty firm saying she did not want me doing that. I believe she had concerns about them being similar? I'm not sure on that - just that both before bed = bad idea. Anyway good luck. Lack of sleep makes everything 10 times worse. At least for me. Phoenix_Rising
I think Ambien is a good non-benzo choice. I didn't experience any grogginess in the morning while taking it.
Puddles2009
A couple of those are not available in Australia yet I did ask about Ambien and Ativan but they were told immediate no answers because apparently they may make me hallucinate. I am unsure on the truth of this side effect but both seem like very effective medications for me I have a new doctors APP ASAP as of 1215 today I will ask for the other recommendations
crtclms
I hallucinated on Ambien. Mildly. I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, and looked out the window, and there was 3 feet of snow on the ground. It was August in CA, so no there really wasn't 3 feet of snow on the ground. I knew it was a hallucination as soon as I saw it.

Voyager.01
I take sonata as a prn for sleep... It has a very short half life and is out of your system in about four hours... Like you I have problems falling asleep but staying asleep is no problem... The sonata helped me fall asleep and there is no hangover the next morning
WinterRosie
Puddles, you already have a post about Endep going. Please don't make more than one because split responses mean that you won't get as many good ones. Thanks.
chimpmaster
You could ask for klonopin. Similar to Valium but a little stronger. But really if its sleep you want, you should talk to your dr about sleep aids like ambien.
Puddles2009
Ok i've been taken off ENDEP i also got taken off TEMAZEPAM They are going to try me on a dose of 25mg LARGACTIL and see if it helps with my sleep and then reduce my day time anti psychotics so i now take 2 anti psychotics, 1 at night to help me sleep one during the day to stay calm If all this fails i see my doctor again tomorrow also regarding my weight gain which is now 20kg gained in 1 month
HAL9000
How did the med change work Puddles? I have been up at night on the laptop after taking Ambien (of the CR type) and the writing I make as it takes effect is amusing. I type in a couple lines with typos and then (Everytime) its a long string of one letter like xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Since I'm doing this in bed I'm surprised the Laptop doesn't get damaged but its always put away. I don't seem to be capable of turning it off however. BTW I've never heard of the meds you mentioned. *What is a Swisse Multivitamin? I take whatever is cheap. And for anyone that cares "women's" multivitamins and so close to being whats in "men's" that its silly to pay more for one over the other. I vegged out looking at whats in them all and its Mili-sub-micro changes in dose.
