Lexapro and alcohol

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering the effects of the mix of these two.. People say a few drinks are okay, some say none.

People say that alcohol is a depressant so don't mix them, but for me personally.. It doesn't act as such. I never get sad while drinking and when I am in a sad/depressed mood I will not and don't have the desire to drink. Alcohol is a happy drug for me.

Last night with some friends decided to drink some light stuff like the Bacardi zombie(12,5%)and cheap diluted vodka (21%) and some smirnoff screwdrivers.. Had about 6 cups of double shots(a shot of both Bacardi and vodka) and 2 smirnoffs

I decided to allow myself to drink because I have no SE to Lexapro besides feeling sleepy and I take it in the morning so I had no worries .no apparent effects of the mix during the drinking but I woke today with a hangover, my very first one.. It's mild and expected from alcohol so it doesn't worry me.

I don't drink much anymore but my friends don't know about my medicine, and it'd be odd if I declined an invite to drink..

Thoughts and opinions? Personal experiences?

Yeah, the popular wisdom is to not mix the two. That said, I mixed lex and alcohol for years. That said, was it a wise decision? No, probably not. The fact that you don't ordinarily get hangovers and you got one this morning, tells me that maybe the two aren't a good combo for you. If I'm counting right, you had 12 shots and two drinks? That's a lot of booze. Even if it was 6 shots and two drinks, that's still a lot for your liver to process. Personally I would recommend cutting down on how much you drink whether on meds or not. Wow, I am really no fun this morning. Sorry.

I hear you, I drink to feel good and if I'm not at the point yet I continue. I don't drink until I pass out and don't drink often so it doesn't worry me but family worries about the amount I drink at once.

Thanks for the input :P

I haven't taken Lexapro, but my husband did, and his ndoc new he was a moderate drinker, and didn't tell him to stop. He'll have a beer or two about once every ten days. Sometimes, we will split a bottle of wine, which means we would both have slightly over two drinks, but that was once a month, maybe. I can't drink these days because of my headaches.

What you did was not at all moderate, and I would be worried that you would do that, Lexapro or no. It's still binge drinking, even if you only do it occasionally. Binge drinking can be a drinking problem, even if it doesn't happen daily.

I never got hangovers either until I started drinking on meds. I also can't binge drink like I used to or I blackout and stupid shit happens. I definitely had to teach myself moderation with alcohol on meds, because I didn't know the meaning of the word before. I was accustomed to being able to drink constantly for an entire weekend, sleep it off for a few hours, and hop out of bed with no problem on Monday morning. Those days are long gone. I'll have a couple of glasses of wine now, or a few beers, or a cocktail or two. But I know now not to push it. I feel like as long as you don't push your limit, you'll be okay. But you should definitely talk about it with your doctor first.
