devon00
After being on Celexa for about 4 years, I've weaned myself off of it under a psychiatrist's care. I've lost about 30 lbs and am skinny again (yay!) and have a ton more energy (the Celexa really sapped me of energy) but I'm also never tired and can't fall asleep...even after 1am on a weeknight. Could this be "normal"? The thing that worries me is that this could be some sort of bipolar symptom...but I'm not manically happy or "up." Do some people just have insomnia for no reason that's unrelated to a bipolar illness? What's the safest (non-addicting) sleep medication? This is all very new to me because I've never really had problems sleeping before.
Greenyflower
How long have you been completely off the Celexa? It took me a couple of months after coming off of it to get my sleep back to normal. Both amitriptyline and trazodone are sedating antidepressants that are used to help with sleep. The dose you would use for sleep is nowhere near the therapeutic dose for depression. Also, both are generic, so they are cheap. And non-addictive. I've been on the same low dose of amitriptyline for two years now. Greeny
devon00
I've been on a very low dose for about 3 months, and I'm only just now weaning down to nothing.
Greenyflower
Even from a small dose to nothing, the withdrawal effects can last for a few weeks. If the insomnia is not relenting, ask your doc for a script for a week or two of sleeping pills or something to help get you over the hump. I hope you're feeling better soon.
