Sertraline withdrawal

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has felt this way...

I stopped taking sertraline a few weeks ago as I felt it wasn't doing anything for me (with docs consent) and felt incredibly dizzy, over emotional, tired and just generally unwell. I read up about it and it sounded like withdrawal and it has pretty much gone now. I started taking mizatrapine in its place.

My biggest issue is I'm still feeling SO IRRITABLE! Everything is annoying me and I'm even more sensitive than usual. My husband and I are fighting everyday. Feeling so confused why I can't get things under control.

I experienced the same think going off Sertraline. Just felt emotional and yucky. When I went on Mirtazapine, I had a lot of anger. Picking fights with people, everything pissed me off. It eventually eased when I adjusted to it. You are not alone.

BTW I did not go on Mirtazapine right after the Sertraline, so for me at least, I knew the anger wasnt from the Sertraline taper.

Hi Lonelypony,

I came off Zoloft at the end of February this year after taking, along with Wellbutrin, for about 8 years. My doctor kept forgetting to call in the refill so after about a week I decided to give up and just went cold turkey. I went through very similar experiences as you; fighting with my husband, crying, feeling SO easily irritated by everything. I felt rage that I haven't felt since PMS times (now post menopausal). I started seeing a therapist again this week to try to figure out where this anger and sometimes overwhelmed feeling is coming from. Could it be as simple as re-starting the sertraline? What has been your experience, or anyone else out there who has come off sertraline, since your post?

Hi cindyrella,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It still amazes me how medications can affect people!

I was in such a state earlier this year but I settled on the mirtazapine and the only negative side affect I had from it was an increased appetite and therefore gained quite a bit of weight. Going straight from sertraline to mirtazapine it's hard to know which was to blame but point of my reply is that at least it subsided and after a few weeks I felt back to my usual self.

About 10 days ago I changed from mirtazapine to trazodone due to the weight issue (my appetite has decreased, yay) and i wasn't finding the mirtazapine effective for my anxiety and depression but I have just gone through big life change so if it's working for others that's awesome!

I was cranky as all hell when I got cut off sertraline due to insurance issues a couple of years ago. (I'm back on now, it works better for me than anything else I've tried.) Splitting headaches and I was just not a nice person to be around as I had a bad tendency to go OFF.  Mostly on Facebook, but I regret a few arguments I started back then.

Glad your new meds are working better for you.
