Do I belong here?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new here which is stupid to say since this is the introduction area....well I'm 23 live in Australia and suffer from PTSD, generalised and social anxiety, OCD and depression...umm a friend told me this is a good site to meet people that understand what I'm going through...

I've completely closed myself off from everyone so this is kinda like a new start I hope...

We aren't worried in the least that you will cause trouble---it's just that we're pretty blunt around here and sometimes newcomers expect it to be a rainbow & unicorn kind of place. :)  There's a certain amount of bad language and we don't tiptoe around delicate topics.

I hope you will like hanging out with us.  This truly is a home for many of us who don't have many friends and family members who understand our issues.  I'm glad your friend told you about us.

Welcome!

Welcome!

You certainly aren't alone here. I have almost the same Dx, minus the OCD, so for the most part, I can relate. Everyone can really be themselves here, and we all try to help each other. It really is like a family.

I hope to see you around the blogs or in chat!

Hi, welcome. We definitely don't walk on eggshells here, and you do belong here. We have a strong sense of community. We have the blogs, where you can say what you want, and the forums, where you can ask for advice and give advice, and chat, where if you're in crisis, you can pop in or just come in and chat along.

I hope you find the boards worthwhile and if you have any questions, moderators names are in blue or purple, and admins are orange with a line overtop. Don't be shy! We're not!

If you read the user agreement, you know that we don't mince our words when it comes to our issues.

If you have an OCD question, you can post in that forum and be very specific about what you are having a problem with, and what you could do to deal with it.  Ditto for depression, anxiety, etc.

If you want to talk about PTSD, self-harm, or eating disorders, go to those forums and read the guidelines pinned at the top.  They will give you a good idea of what is acceptable in those forums.

If you want to talk about your day, or your history, or just life in general, go to the blog section and start a blog.

In terms of triggers, we only ask that you warn people at the top of your post that it might contain triggering material.  For instance, if you are going to blog about being molested as a child, it would be a kindness to our membership to put this symbol at the top:

:Trigger: :Trigger: :Trigger:

That's the warning we use to tip off people that there might be material in the post that is going to be a trigger.

However, we don't walk on eggshells.  My blog is all about food---I love to cook, and I raise my own vegetables and chickens, and people find that out pretty quickly when they read my blog.  I don't put a trigger warning on each one that contains pictures of dinners, so if that is upsetting to some of our folks who have an ED, then it is their responsibility to avoid my blog.

If you want to talk about how crippling your anxiety is, or how your OCD manifests itself, go right ahead.  Many of us have experienced similar stuff and no one is going to criticize you for writing frankly about your issues.

I hope that helps!
