Guest Guest_Ahalo_*
Well I tried a diff. doctor to see about getting some sort of help with sleep. But I didn't get any. So... I want to try something OTC. What kind of Benadryl is good for sleeping? There are so many kinds! Would nyquil be better? Anyone have any tips? gracias. HaloGirl66
Agreed. the diphenhydramine HCI is the part of all of that stuff (Nyquil, tylenol PM, etc.) that makes you sleepy. taking the other stuff just gives you stuff you don't really needs, and in the case of tylenol, too much of that can hurt your liver. ConfusedCat
Yup good ol benedryl! Be aware to take it an hour or more before you go to bed. It is very slow to kick in (for me) but once asleep it helps me sleep better and stay asleep. My Doc gives me the visteril now. Same thing basically only much more potent. Dixie_Amazon
Try it on a night when you don't have go to work the next day. It give some people (me) a hangover. Good luck!
withing
You can always try chamomile tea or catnip tea too. Or even Valarian if you're hard up. I mean, if you're BP, can't Benadryl do not so good things to you? I know if I take it, I get restless...

Loon-A-TiK
Simply Sleep from Tylenol has the sleep ingrediant from Tylenol PM without the pain reliever, so you aren't doing that extra crap to your liver. I take it sometimes. I wake up with no issues. Benedryl gives me issues, but I've gotten injections of it in the hospital to try to calm me down before going hard-core and giving me an injection or IV of Zyprexa. I get terrible hangovers from Benedryl. I'd rather them give me Zyprexa! But I think for sleep, that would be a huge overkill! I'm talking about squashing mania! Greenyflower
Try not to use the Benedryl every night. It's easy to build tolerance for one thing, and after a couple of nights it goes paradoxical on me and keeps me up, up, up. Greeny
null0trooper
Try not to use the Benedryl every night. It's easy to build tolerance for one thing, and after a couple of nights it goes paradoxical on me and keeps me up, up, up. Greeny <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No way around that really. It blocks acetylcholine in order to function as an antihistamine. So whether it's after one dose or several consecutive, acetylcholine is going to rebound upwards. Enough of a rebound and the acetylcholine antagonizes dopamine (probably not a good mix with APs) for a good dose of RLS on top of its own wakey-wakey-think-faster effects. (From the McGill U. page: "The Brain from Top to Bottom" "... it is involved in wakefulness, attentiveness, anger, aggression, sexuality, and thirst, among other things. ") This is why I try never to take benadryl in the PM anymore - very hard to relax and get to sleep that night. (And looking up the relationships through Google/WebMD/McGill & Co. does not make me happy I've gone through soooo much of it over the past fifteen years or so. )
