I was just today taken off of tramadol (which made me sleep for literally 16 hours at a time) and switched to remeron.  does anyone else have any experience with it? or does it have any weird side effects or interactions? i always get super nervous starting a new med.

In my experience, it is very sedating and drives my appetite wild. After a while, the sedation went away for me, but the appetite increase never did. However, it is still a good med and effective against anxiety.

It helped me fall asleep pretty well. I wish I could take it again. And I might now that I'm on mood stabilizers if I ever need an AD.

The first night and the morning after were the worst for me in terms of initial side effects. It DID make me so tired I couldn't stay awake, but I wasn't expecting how much it would actually do in that department, so I took it a few hours before bedtime for some reason. I ate an enormous amount of food and really felt like I did when I used to smoke pot.

The next morning I was pretty sedated. But not again after that morning. woke up really refreshed, actually.

Then I was in a really, really good mood for the rest of the time I was on it, but I was extra snappy and mean so I went off it. This was before they knew I was bipolar so, yeah.

  • 2 weeks later...

Took it back in 1998. Worked very well for my mood and sleep but I gained 30lbs over a 3 month period which made me feel very miserable so I tapered off it. A pity about the weight gain because otherwise it was a great medication
