Seroquel XR 150 mg Side Effects- Increased Anxiety?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been taking Seroquel XR 150 mg for 6 days. Since starting it I've had a range of side effects, like increased anxiety, feeling all discombobulated, afraid to do things (just wanting to stay in my room and hide from the world), and feeling like I have way too much energy in my mucles, like I drank a lot of energy drinks and I'm overloaded with energy.

Could these symptoms be akathasia? Will they disappear as my body gets more used to this dose?

Thank You,

Shana

In my opinion it's entirely possible that you're experiencing akathisia.  I had a bad case of it (wanting to crawl out of my own skin, overloaded with energy, terrible feeling of dread and doom, etc) when my pdoc tried to raise my Seroquel XR dose from 600mg.  I couldn't tolerate it at all, and my pdoc gave no indication that it would disappear with time, so we settled back on 600mg and added another mood stabiliser instead.

This is all to say that it may well be that 150mg is unfortunately your limit, and if that is the case, it's possible that you'll have to explore other options.  Obviously I'm not a medical professional, and this is just based on my experience, but I'd really recommend contacting your pdoc asap to discuss the issue.  Every med has some sort of side effect, but I'm firmly of the belief that some of the effects are truly intolerable, and we shouldn't suffer through them without asking for help.  Good luck!

I got the same jittery muscles side-effect on Seroquel at 100mg, and it only got worse, evolving into severe muscle pain and dizziness at 150mg. I agree with miab that such side-effects at a low dose doesn't bode well for it being the right med for you. Despite my issues on Seroquel, I had no hints of akathisia on Zyprexa and was able to quickly titrate up to a therapeutic dose, so don't assume another AAP will have similar side-effects.
