Because there is the potential for serotonin syndrome, but some doctors will prescribe two serotoninergic medications in conjunction. That said, they are both SSRIs. It's certainly possible to double up on serotoninergic meds and be okay. Just don't do it by yourself, like most medication Things. Velvet Elvis Posted February 7, 2014 Share Posted February 7, 2014 My gf is on Luvox for OCD and then takes a small dose of zoloft once a month for a week for PMS mood swings. SSRIs can be mixed safely if the doses are low enough. Serotonic syndrome is a risk but symptoms are likely to be mild and easily identified when low dose SSRIs are mixed. If you experience agitated delirium, stop both meds. The risk of that is rare though and it will wear off fairly quickly as long as you're not taking 5-HTP or anything like that.
