Sertraline and Luvox

Recommended Posts

Is that what your doctor prescribed?

Because there is the potential for serotonin syndrome, but some doctors will prescribe two serotoninergic medications in conjunction.

That said, they are both SSRIs.  So it would be odd to be taking both together.

If your doctor prescribed them both, they are likely aware of the interaction.  It's certainly possible to double up on serotoninergic meds and be okay.  Just don't do it by yourself, like most medication Things.

My gf is on Luvox for OCD and then takes a small dose of zoloft once a month for a week for PMS mood swings.  SSRIs can be mixed safely if the doses are low enough.

Serotonic syndrome is a risk but symptoms are likely to be mild and easily identified when low dose SSRIs are mixed.  If you experience agitated delirium, stop both meds.  The risk of that is rare though and it will wear off fairly quickly as long as you're not taking 5-HTP or anything like that.  You should never take 5-HTP or l-tryptophan along with SSRIs.
