The Patients Have Taken Over the Asylum

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone. I've been browsing this forum and the CrazyMeds site as an unregistered guest for quite a while and thought I would finally join in with the conversation. I love the funny, irreverent, no-bs tone of these sites. It's entertaining and fits my own attitude towards my issues (or lifetime subscription, as the case may be).

I was diagnosed with Bipolar II three years ago. I denied the diagnosis and refused treatment for a long time, but got a harsh wake-up call when my fiance was hospitalized for his own Bipolar I issues. Everyone in my family and friends group has mental health issues, and I finally realized that my refusal to treat my own problems was making me not only fail myself, but fail them. I could live with destroying my own life, but not with failing others, so I finally went to my doctor and started experimenting with medications. I think I've found meds that are working for the time being and can't believe the fast and dramatic difference they've made in my life. I was always afraid meds would stifle my creativity and personality, but it turns out the depression and mood swings were suppressing my real self far more than meds ever could.

Anyway, I'm happy to be here and look forward to getting to know you all.

Sounds like you have made some positive strides!  I hope your meds continue to work and help you achieve some level of stability.

I ask all new members to read the rules---you have probably heard me say this if you've been lurking for a while.  It just helps us to all be on the same page.

Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Welcome!
