Butterflykisses
About 2 weeks ago I was put on Xanax to replace Klonopin. Shortly after the change in meds I started to feel very anxious, have panic attacks, and crying spells along with meltdowns. I contacted my pdoc after hours to ask for help and told her how the Xanax is affecting me and I asked her If I could go back on the klonopin and stick to that and she said yes. She agreed the med change triggered such a reaction, but wants me to track my mood till I see her next week to make sure I am not having mood cycling issues. At first I thought Xanax was working but then things started to go downhill. Now that I am back on Klonopin I feel SO MUCH BETTER. Is this a rare reaction to Xanax? Pharmacist thought so. Anyway, I am so glad I have such a caring pdoc who is there when I need her and feel relief of anxiety on the klonopin which at first I thought did nothing but apparently it does. melissaw72
For me Klonopin keeps my anxiety at a constant level, and xanax is for breakthrough anxiety (and taken as needed). Because the xanax is short-acting, it might have worn off faster than the klonopin did, causing you to have the panic attacks and crying spells. crtclms
Klonopin made me have rages. Any time a med is prescribed to achieve one result, the opposite result might happen. That was very poorly worded. Anyway, maybe you were having a paradoxical effect.
dilemma
I had the same reactions as melissa. Klonopin was more constant and longer acting, and Xanax was for more immediate needs as it was faster acting and felt stronger but didn't last as long as Klonopin.
