I was on Latuda and it gave me akasthia (sp?) -just pure restlessness- and like restless leg syndrome

I was on Seroquel 300mg and it would knock me out for 16 hours a day.

The three antipsychotics I was thinking about:

RISPERDAL, ZYPREXA, and SAPHRIS

I am also thinking about sleeping meds:

LUNESTA

I was wondering if you tried any of these:

What dosage were you on?

what side effects you had?

Which one did you feel helped you the most with less side effects?

Did any of them help you sleep or interact with a sleeping med you were on?

I am on neurotin right now and love it for my anxiety so will not change that.

I see my psychiatrist Monday and would like to have an idea which one I want to try.

Thank you for answering!

Risperdal caused weight gain (but nowhere near as what I gained on Zyprexa). I also developed high prolactin levels which lead me to stop menstruating and I was lactating which was very embarrassing. It did help my mood to a certain degree but I was only on it for a short time due to side effects (3 months)

Zyprexa caused me to gain an enormous amount of weight in a short period of time. On the other hand it calmed me right down when I was manic.

I cannot speak of Saphris as I have never been on it.

These medications have helped many many people so please don't form your opinion on what I say. Hope you get the right medication for you!

^ ^ Ditto to what rowan said there.  This thread worries me a little - for example, five of us could tell you that Zyprexa made us gain weight, but it might be THE med that turns things around for you.  Please be careful with what you do with the information that you're asking for here.

I take 15 mg of Zyprexa and it works very well.  (I had been rapid cycling for 10 years before I started taking it and am now stable).  The side effects are a doozy though.  I gained a bunch of weight.  I have diabetes II and it has interfered with my blood sugar to the point that I need to give myself a daily insulin shot.  I am also tired a good deal of the time, but I'm working with some of my other meds to counteract that.  So its a very effective med with a fair amount of side effects.

Thank you all for responding. I was asking this to see how many people experience a certain side effect... I was gonna do an average thing to see which one I should try next. I really want to try Risperdal, but I have heard a lot of people say it caused them to stop menstruating as well and lactate...so I wanted to see in reality if that was true. I was worried about zyprexa cuz it seems to have a high amount of people who gained a lot of weight on it.  Seroquel also makes me eat like a starving pig and then makes me too lethargic to function. I hope to get some more responses to help me decide which one I should try next.

What dosage were you on?

Risperdal: I don't actually remember now, it was awhile ago.  But I was on a lot.

Saphris: 10mg

Zyprexa: 15mg

what side effects you had?

Risperdal: sleeping 20 hours a day, hand tremors

Saphris: Akathisia from HELL, I couldn't sleep for days and days and it was just all around awful

Zyprexa: weight gain

Which one did you feel helped you the most with less side effects?

Zyprexa, though it didn't work well enough for me to stay on it.

Did any of them help you sleep or interact with a sleeping med you were on?

The Zyprexa helped me sleep.  Risperdal made me sleep too much.  On the Saphris I basically didn't sleep at all because of the akathisia.

saphris I've been on varying doses

right now I take 10 mgs at bedtime

it used to be 5mg twice a day but that left me feeling stoned all day

now I just sleep for like 15hrs lol

I get sedated from saphris - hate the taste   black cherry is the best imo

zyprexa is hella sedating  hella weight gaining

Risperdal is super sedating super weightgaining

lunesta isn't bad - just don't eat anything after you take it   it makes food taste nasty

What dosage were you on? 5mg of Zyprexa and 5mg of Saphris (not at the same time)

what side effects you had? Zyprexa: Weight gain, increased appetite, apathy, felt like a zombie

Saphris: Akathisia, bad taste in mouth, drowsiness

Which one did you feel helped you the most with less side effects? Zyprexa, I guess. They both sucked for me really. I didn't stay on Saphris long at all

Did any of them help you sleep or interact with a sleeping med you were on? I'm not sure about this. I feel that Saphris would have helped me sleep if I didn't have akathisia. I took Zyprexa so long ago, I really can't remember what my sleep was like.

What dosage were you on?

Risperdal: 1mg. Zyprexa: I've never been on. Saphris: 5mg at night, 5mg in the morning.

what side effects you had?

Risperdal: I was a little tired when I first started it, but it was the first antipsychotic I was ever on, so I guess that is expected. But it didn't work at all. Saphris: Numb tongue for about 10 or 15 minutes after taking it.

Which one did you feel helped you the most with less side effects?

So far, Saphris.

Did any of them help you sleep or interact with a sleeping med you were on?

Risperdal helped me sleep, at first. I've heard Zyprexa is very sedating, and Saphris doesn't make me tired at all. Saphris can interact with Thorazine and a few other sleep meds, I know. I'm not sure about the other two. I think I was on Trazodone and Imovane when I was on Risperdal.

Saphris I don't really know anything about. My fiance had a terrifying bad reaction to Risperdal where his heart nearly stopped, so I'm too scared to ever try it myself, even if that is somewhat illogical. Both fiance and I are on Zyprexa now (he's on 5mg, I'm on 10mg) and find it to be effective at stabilizing our moods without severe side-effects. Fiance gets sedated and some of the increased eating. I get a slightly stoned feeling when it initially kicks in, but nothing more. It doesn't help me sleep, unfortunately, since I don't find it sedating.
