I started Saphris during my most recent hospitalization. I just got out yesterday, I was there for 20 days. I went in on Haldol, Loxapine, Zoloft, Cogentin, and Epival. Whilst there, I came off Zoloft, Haldol, Loxapine, and Cogentin. I was started on and taken off Clozapine. Then I was started on Saphris. It works really well when I take it, I guess you could say, in the most effective way possible. Otherwise, it doesn't work at all. I have to let it melt under my tongue completely. If it gets stuck in my teeth or I swallow some of it, it doesn't work. Does anyone else have that experience? Any ways to avoid it getting stuck in your mouth or swallowing it without letting it melt? I want to try to continue taking it, as I have taken 9 different antipsychotics in the past that just haven't worked, so when I find one that does work, I like to try to hold on to it.

You're not supposed to drink after taking it, so I wouldn't do that.

Sometimes I get little bits stuck that don't dissolve.  What I find helps is having a big drink right before I take it, so that my mouth is super moist, and trying to hold some of that moisture (not the water per se) under my tongue.

I don't think so...I've never been offered it, anyways.  Though I've heard that the black cherry still tastes pretty bad.

Word of caution about that - I just ignore the taste now - but at first, I decided I wanted to do something about it, and I'd heard of people gargling with mouthwash before hand to sort of deaden the tastebuds.

1. It still tastes bad, even doing that

2. Mouthwash dries out your mouth, so the Saphris took longer to dissolve or didn't dissolve well

3. I started losing my sense of taste, which was WEIRD - food is really gross with no flavour - it's an unlikely side effect of Saphris, and once I stopped gargling, it went away and I can taste food again.

No water/drinks for 10 mins after you take it. I sometimes get a tiny bit stuck on the back of my lower teeth (pdoc told me to make sure to stick it as back as far as I can, under my tongue) and I just swallow that. It has not made a difference on whether or not it works. If you hate the taste, I always tell others to do what I do; hold your nose while it dissolves, swallow a few times, then you should be good. I still get a numb feeling but it helps with taste.

biotene has helped me with dry mouth during the day.

I'll remember not to use mouthwash. I think I read about that on here before, too. I wouldn't be able to do that either anyway... I hate the taste of mouthwash... Lol

I think it's because it was a large amount today that got stuck in my mouth that I swallowed.
