Mr_Turtle
Hi everyone, I stopped taking venlafaxine (Effexor) with permission from my pdoc recently. I was originally at 225mg, then took 150mg for 3 days, then 75mg for 3 days, then down to zero. That was about 12 days ago. Since then I've been having headaches and nausea, which is what I expected. But also my stomach has been feeling very strange. When I eat it quickly swells up and hurts for at least an hour, and I get REALLY nauseous through my whole body. And then my stomach stays full for several hours instead of emptying itself. Does this sound like a venlafaxine-withdrawal symptom that anything else has encountered? I had some stomach problems which never really got resolved a couple of years ago (doctor reckoned it was a stress-induced stomach ulcer, maybe that was correct since it responded to proton pump inhibitors) so I'm not sure which this is. Thanks! - Mr Turtle
Indigo 'n dye
With that set of symptoms you need to see you doctor for evaluation. Whether related to med withdrawal or not.
vanderk
That's a very rapid withdrawal schedule from a high dosage of Effexor, and the symptoms you describe are in keeping with the discontinuation effects of this medication. Still, as Indigo says, check this out with your doc, especially after prior GI issues.
