Some thing like lexapro?

Recommended Posts

Alright, so I've tried a few couple of different ADs since last year. My GP put me on pristiq (what a nightmare!), I quit on my own, then found a pdoc. He tried me on lexapro first. I did feel better, but I was still very anxious & it killed my sexdrive. We discussed it & decided to try fetzima. It's only week one, but I feel like crap. My hearts been racing for days, I'm dying to cut myself, & I've been feeling a little suicidal. I'm going to call him later today, hopefully I'll be able to see him in the next couple days. But now I'm wondering if some thing similar to lexapro might help more? He said I was welcome to do my own research & if there was some thing I wanted to try I should let him know, but the veriaty of drugs on the market is mind boggling! Any ideas? (Sorry this is such a rambling post.)

I have no recommendations, but a few ideas.

Sounds like SNRI's like Pristiq and Fetzima might get you amped up.  You could wait it out, see if the energy evens out. Docs can even do a short-term course of long-acting benzos (i.e. Valium) until you adjust.

Or you can go back to a Lexapro type med (SSRI). All the SSRIs can have sexual side effects. Could be a little less on Vibryd or Brintellix. Insurance doesn't always want to cover those two. If insurance is a problem, Zoloft is a classic.

Some people need two different meds i.e. Lexapro + Buspar, Paxil + Wellbutrin.

There are other classes of meds too that can be tried.

Did you call the doctor and did s/he have any recommendations?

I made an appointment for Thursday & stopped taking the fetzima. I know there's a million meds out there & one of them is bound to help...I just hate the roller coaster feeling of starting & stopping meds all the time. :-/
