San
He's a serious pothead. He's supposed to be evicted, but they're "still building a case". I think he'll be gone by the end of the month, according to my landlord. Now that the eviction is final, he's gone wild in what he does. He smokes pot inside. It drives me nuts. I live in a bachelor with a shared kitchen. He's in the room next to mine. He isn't a roommate, so I don't worry about rent and stuff, because he's a tenant. I pay my rent, he pays his. But the pot, my god. He smokes like 3-4 times a day. Inside. The way the ventilation and heating is set up, it reaks the entire house, its disgusting. I can't stand the smell, and before I was on stronger AP's, it would make me paranoid. Now I'm afraid of failing drug tests because the smell is in the house ALL the time and it's so strong. Yesterday I came home and it was practically BLOWN AWAY by the smell. So far, 2 people have moved out because of him. I just moved in in Jan, and my landlord wants me to stay, I don't want to move to another place (my landlord has a few residences) because its a PITA. I could probably get a free months rent if I bitched enough. My landlord isn't doing anything wrong. He's following the rules of the Landlord & Tenant Act to a "T". If he didn't, he could get sued, which involves, when you evict someone, you give them 60 days notice. He's even helping the kid find a new place. What a guy. This landlord even got my last months rent covered by disability after the denied me. He really helped me out. I'm on a lease, I like it here (most of the time), my rent covers everything including internet and TV, and my landlord comes monthly to get mail, check on things, and gives us the required notice. When a tenant had to come back to get some stuff she forgot, he called me to ask if it was okay if he entered the property and requested I be there, but I said it was fine, I trusted M and I trusted him, I was out of town. (I was leaving therapy) But this tenant.. he'll bum smokes off me.. He can get violent when he locks himself out, you'll hear him kicking the door and swearing.. if he rang the bell once I'd let him in, but I've almost called the cops.. I call my landlord and they'll come and let him in so I don't have to deal.. he uses my dishes and cookery without asking, and never washes them, even thought I said "if you use it, wash it so I can use it". I keep my toaster oven in my room when I'm not using it. I'm going to wash my stuff and keep it in my room until he's gone. Right now its the 2 of us in a 4 bedroom. I really liked M and she left. We had good chats, watched TV together. She's at another of my landlords residences. He used my phone to "call his aunt" and then used it to buy drugs. I had to call my landlord and his receptionist/accountant and tell them that, and send the texts over, so they could use that in the case. I felt bad, but he was buying bad stuff, and used my phone. So I don't have to worry about a call from the cops. He gets tattooed IN HIS ROOM. No law against that. But EWW. As someone who used to work at shops. My landlord is using that in the case as a health hazard. One more month. At least my landlord is good. On my side. Follows the Landlord Tenant Act to a "T". I owe him some M&M's for his candy dish. One day he accidentally locked me out (he had come to talk to that tenant, who would never go to his office as asked, so he stopped in) and I ran down the street to their office (about 5 doors down) and his receptionist let me in, free of charge, she was chatting away with me, made sure I had my keys, complimented my guinea pig (everyone loves him). Funny: When my landlord saw my guinea pig he said "Whoa, what is that? Holy crap it's furry!", and I said, "Oh, that's Skrinkle, my guinea pig" and he laughed. We're allowed small animals, but due to the shared nature of the kitchen, common area, we can't have larger ones, like cats and dogs. Sorry to rant so much, but this is a PISS OFF. I love the location, its a nice place, but this tenant SUCKS. *breathes* One more month
WinterRosie
I can imagine you with one of those prison-style calendars largely and obtrusively marking the days. You're right that this too shall pass.

San
Thanks guys. Rosie: Nah, I don't have one yet, but I'm counting the days! He knows about the eviction, he has the landlord and tenant act files, and he has told me he's being evicted. I doubt the police will get involved. I might just not be here that day. lavender fairy
Is it against the law to smoke pot where you live? If so, could you call the cops when he is smoking, or do you think that would cause more problems for you in the end? Either way, I am sorry you are having to go through this. It sounds like a shitty situation.

San
MMJ is legal, but it is legal to have small amounts and smoke in your own dwelling. However, its illegal to smoke in an apartment or shared place, like where I live. I got fed up and told my landlord I wanted to move to another unit, he said there are non available. He said this guy'll be out by the end of the month. ARGHHH. The guys been slamming doors all day, since I wouldn't let him use my phone or laptop to "use Facebook". Yea, like last time when he contacted all sorts of drug dealers. I'm calling the landlord and tenant board tomorrow to see what MY RIGHTS are. They only seem to give a damn about HIS rights. What about the health effects of someone constantly (2-3, sometimes more) smoking pot in shared accommodations? His room is right next to mine. Can't he at least fucking go outside? If he's still on the property, its legal. Or use something that has less smell. I'm afraid its going to kill my guinea pig.
WinterRosie
You might want to mention that you have a dx that is known to be adversely affected by weed. I can't imagine someone with chronic obstructed airway or whatever that disease is called would be allowed to stay in a place with a smoker in shared accommodation, for example. Why should MI be any different?
San
I've mentioned it a few times. They don't give a shit. I called the Landlord Tenant Board today and they basically told me to fuck off, because I'm just a tenant.
San
Okay, well I've got a few things figured out.. Something must have happened, he's stopped smoking pot inside, and he's rarely here. In Canada it's very hard to evict someone in the winter, especially if they don't have a set place to go because of the bad weather. That's understandable. And he is going at the end of the month.. He was pissed when he got that letter and slamming things around, but things have gotten much better. If someone is doing drugs inside, the eviction notice can be shortened to 30 days. I haven't had to contact my landlord in a couple of weeks! The weather is getting better, but the bad weather conditions still applies. My aunt is a landlord and she said technically, he can be evicted in 14 days, since what he was doing was illegal (the tattooing and the pot smoking in a shared building) but due to the bad weather, and no police report, it would be longer. She said she's had the same problem, and all the tenants really could do was call the police and file a report, which I didn't want to do. We had another tenant move in to one of the open rooms (there are 4 total, 3 taken up right now) and he's really cool, and very nice, cleans up after himself in the kitchen, talkative, and when he moved in, I offered a few times to help, it was snowing, but he declined and was almost done moving in (when I heard the banging and crashing I assumed it was dipshit throwing a tantrum, oops). I see him a couple times a day, and I've helped him with the (sometimes crappy) wifi, and he's always thankful. This weekend I've been alone. The new tenant went to see his parents, and the other guy is.. I don't know where.. probably doing drugs someplace else.. I have a lockable medicine cabinet now, and lock my room when I'm not in it. I feel safer.
