Facebook button?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new here but have posted quite a lot lately. I've noticed the Facebook share button right near the submit post button. I think this could be potentially devastating if someone accidentally broadcasted their most private and vulnerable issues to all their Facebook peeps.

I think it should be removed, but I'm curious what others think.

As I write this, there are a whole bunch of buttons under the reply window, including one that lets you "like" this post for FB.  You can also share it on twitter, via Google, on reddit, etc.  However, on my computer, the buttons are on the left and the "Post" button is on the right, so they're not really close to each other.

Having said that, I must have run my courser over the FB one one day when I was looking at the Baby Animal thread, and a Like announcement appeared on my wall.  I am not using my real name here and don't want my account to link to FB, so I deleted that post on FB.  We aren't going to remove the FB link because some people want their accounts to be linked.

Oh, I see what olga is talking about - they're on the far lefthand side for me, under the post buttons on the right.  I've honestly not noticed them until now.  Possibly because I'm not on fb or twitter and have no idea what recommending on google means, or what "Del.icio.us" or Reddit or StumbleUpon or Blog This are.  They're so far away from the Post button that I think someone would really have to make an effort to click on one of them.

I was talking about my phone, miab.   It's not the same on my phone.

Hagar, yes.  It must be. I have Facebook and Twitter "Share" buttons directly above the reply button.   Maybe there's a way to unlink the apps in settings.

I understand this fear. But you know what?

If you hit the button, it doesn't post right away. You still have to hit "post" in the FB or the twitter app (and log in even before that if you don't keep yourself logged in). You still have time to back up before posting - and then hastily deleting. It's still a multi-step process.

It's the same as if you want to share a photo or a link to a news site: you still have to do some other steps before broadcasting to the world.

Also, it depends on your privacy settings, too. You can select (in facebook, I'm not sure about twitter) that posts from here only go to a group. And then you can make that group infinitesimally small, if you want to play around in there.
