MCS718
Hello, I am a 40 year old male, and have been on medications for anxiety and depression since I was 15 years old. I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder at 15, but it was really PTSD due to ongoing issues dealing with childhood trauma. Anyway, I started taking Effexor in 1997 and have been on it ever since. But in the last several months, I have become a bit of a mess - extremely irritable, moody, crying a lot and very angry. Last week, I see a new Dr and go from 150mgs of Effexor a day to 110mgs. To help combat the awfulness of Effexor withdrawal, I am now on Serequel, 150mgs. How do I feel after 4 days like this? Pretty awful. Part of me wants to jump ship and go back to the damn Effexor! How long does it take for Serequel to really work? How dangerous is it to have been on Effexor for 17 years? I just want to feel good and normal again. Thanks M. olga
Welcome to Crazyboards. I ask all new members to read the rules so we're all on the same page. If you post your question in the forum for antidepressant drugs, you might get more responses from our members. I'll move this post to the introduction section. olga
jt07
Hi and welcome to the forums. I don't think it's dangerous to have been on Effexor that long, but you might have a tough time getting off. Not everybody has a hard time, but it seems that more people have problems with Effexor than other meds. I didn't have a hard time, but I was on it only for a few months because it didn't work for me. I don't really know much about Seroquel since I've never taken it, but it really is not an antidepressant by itself and is usually used to augment an antidepressant. If you are only taking it for anxiety then it could be good for that. I just don't know. Is your new doctor a pdoc (psychiatrist)?
Mr_Turtle
I felt horribly hungover for a month after coming off Effexor (am only just starting to feel human this week) but that was going from 225mg to 0mg in a week. It might suck for you for another couple of weeks I guess. Hang in there!

CrazyT
Heya. I've been on Seroquel for a couple of months now, and it takes me about a week to settle in to each dose change. Extreme lethargy, but I sleep like the dead all night, which is good. Is it helping? Eh, I guess so. My doc pairs the anti-psyc with an anti-d, and that's the one she's still futzing with. I was on Effexor for a couple of years ago, and I don't feel like it ever really killed the depression completely. Isn't it wild how everyone reacts differently to the same meds?
