flowerburgers
Glad to have found this forum. I'm a 21-year-old student who was diagnosed with Bipolar II a little over a year ago...I had my first major depressive episode when I was fifteen and have been pretty steadily cycling since then, but I went to boarding school (of the Holden Caulfield variety, not the behavior modification variety) where my parents were kept out of the loop and I had no access to treatment, so it took a while to get diagnosed. After I graduated I went to Montreal for university and had a long series of episodes that culminated in a prolonged mixed episode, after which I at least got to come home! My psychiatrists in Montreal were nuts -- I think they opened the DSM at random and diagnosed me with whatever disorder they landed on, because there were five or six diagnoses and all of them were bullshit. My psychiatrist in SF recognized right away that it was bipolar and I had neuropsych testing in November to confirm it. Since then I've been titrating up on Lamictal, along with Wellbutrin, which seems to be helping so far. The whole experience sort of imbued me with an automatic shame response to any symptoms, so I'm always happy to meet other people whose experiences align with mine, and who can offer a sense of support and solidarity. cheers! saveyoursanity
I'm very glad you're here! Welcome, welcome. Please read the rules if you haven't, and contact a mod if you have any questions. I'm dying to visit SF and Montreal (I have friends in both places) so I'm very jealous that you live/d there.

maliktheman
I'm a new 20 year old student in Austin, TX. I was a self harmer at a young age only punching and slapping. I've recently started cutting over the past year and I've been dealing with MD for about 2 years going on three. I hope I find people I can connect with and become friends with. I usually have no luck on forums and blogs :/
