melissaw72
I'm glad you got checked out. Maybe you'll get some sleep tonight. Does your pdoc know about your not sleeping?
lavender fairy
I had a hyperactive thyroid that caused me all sorts of trouble. From not sleeping, to a dangerously fast heart rate, depersonalization....it was a very scary time, but I got on the right meds to treat my thyroid and decided on a plan of action to prevent it from happening again, and eventually, my hyperthyroid symptoms abated. I'm not sure what I said makes much sense. It's pretty late and I am tired. I just wanted to let you know that I have been there, and what you are feeling sucks. I hope you get some treatment so that your symptoms abate soon.

melissaw72
I'm sorry you are having a hard time. When you can't sleep, maybe you could just lay down and rest, whether you fall asleep or not. That helps me a lot, and sometimes I end up falling asleep anyway. With the melatonin, how much are you taking? Sometimes "less is more," so ie, 0.5 mg would be more helpful than like 3 mg. For me melatonin caused bad side effects so I couldn't take it, but when I first started out, I took the higher dose and nothing happened. Not tired, nothing. Someone here on CB suggested trying a lower amount, so I did, and it worked better than the higher dose and I slept. I still had side effects (same ones as when I took Ambien), but the main thing was that the lower amount worked better.

Savannah
Ask you pdoc about Rozerem. It cured my insomnia, and 7 years of being on and it still works. It is a pricy drug. Hopefully you have good insurance.

PseudoLucky_Peach
I'm no pharmaceutical expert so I do not claim to know if this will interfere with your current meds and/or health dx. But, plain old Benadryl. I can't recommend it enough. It is gentle, but oh-so-effective. I am a lifelong insomniac. Melatonin ony works for me when I am on the verge of sleep but can't quite get there. Benadryl (generic or brand name) is the only pharmaceutical I will take because it doesn't have that laundry list of side effects, or come with a rx price tag. jt07
Some people experience insomnia from Tofranil. Most people experience sedation.
melissaw72
but I have no idea how this could possibly help me I'm not a DR, but maybe if you are really hesitant about trying it, you can cut the pill in half at first, to see how it effects you, before taking the whole pill. mcjimjam
Did you get to see a sleep specialist in the hospital? If you are having trouble finding a sleep med that works and have tried the common ones it might be a good idea to see one.
lavender fairy
I am sorry your doc is making you wait to see if your thyroid issues resolves on its own as I suspect that it has something to do with your inability to sleep. When I was hyperthyroid, I couldn't sleep no matter what I did, no matter what I took. I remember taking the maximum dose of Lunesta and still staying awake. I am sorry you are still suffering. melissaw72
I was able to get a psych appointment in two weeks but that's just so far away. I don't think my body can afford to wait two weeks! Is it possible to call and ask to get put on a cancellation list for a sooner appt? And also if you do call, tell them why it is urgent.
mcjimjam
Maybe talk to your family doctor about whether a referral to a sleep clinic would be appropriate for you. It sounds like sleep is a big issue for you right now and it might be useful to get a sleep specialists opinion.

lavender fairy
Abilify has really helped me. In the beginning, it helped to regulate my sleep cycles. I am glad you were able to get into the pdoc and I hope it helps.
jt07
Well, here's hoping that you're one of the people that Abilify sedates, otherwise it's going to be rough sledding. Edited March 21, 2014 by jt07
