who do i have to sleep w to get out of this cycle?

Recommended Posts

I've come to this site many times in the past and its been a great source of info & comfort. I've been on ADs for about 20 years. Prozac worked for years, later effexor worked for years. I have tried almost every fucking AD made and so few work. My pdocs can never decide if i'm bipolar or MAD so i've tried a million bi  meds too. This past year has been a bitch. I come from a familly of suicides including mother at 43, grandmother at 59. Now i'm 60. Ironically since I've oultived my predescendants, commiting  suicide seems less likely but maybe thats the new meds. I just started brintellix 4 days ago and its the only thing that hasn't made me feel worse in the same amount of time in years.  I hope this works. I've been clean & sober for almost 30 years after heroin which i LOVED, stopped working. I also take adderall to get me going mostly and trazedone for sleeping. I"m considering going on nicorette since i think smoking helped my mood. I hope to keep my new job and husband both of which my misery has been close to undoing. At any rate, at least i feel good enought to post here. Hope the brintellix contnues to work. Are there any othere women my age here making a final(?) stab at getting theirr life together? I hope its not too late.

Hi Radish.  I've got you by 3 or 4 years, but if it would help you to sleep with me, I'm game. :)

You really have traveled a tough road.  It's a shame the doctors can't figure out your dx, although, that wouldn't matter if they could treat you effectively.  I hope the Brintellix helps you---I've been on WellbutrinXL for....um....I've lost count.  Maybe 7 or 8 or 9 years?  Anyway, fingers crossed for you that this is the one that will work.

I hope you won't go back to nicotine in any form.  I was a long-time smoker, and it was horrible getting that monkey off my back.  Give the med a chance before you buy some Nicorette.

If you have been here before, you know that I'm the PITA person who urges people to change their lifestyle as a part of treatment.  If you are already doing this good stuff, just ignore me.  But if you aren't eating a healthy diet, exercising 30 minutes a day, and getting at least 15 minutes of sun every day, please add that to your regimen.  See, you hate me already.

I'm glad you came back to us.  There are several of us older broads around and I hope you will be a part of our group.  Plus, it's great to hang around with the younger people here because I learn stuff from them every day.  (I no longer tell people that I'm "hooking up with a friend this week" because I found out what that refers to.  *snicker*)

I never thought I would live this long, either.

Hi Olga, too funny. thanks for replying. i know i have to start exercizing just really hate the gym and about all other forms except dancing. i fantasize about starting a monthly dance party for us oldies but haven't had the energy to organize or the self esteem recently to start anything. hope i get some back. i bet there's a lot of people who'd like a low key older dance thing. not exactly 30 minutes a day but at least it wd be fun. i wish i was up to going to a rave. or maybe not. well thanks again.

I think a dance group sounds great, but (as you point out) there would be a lot of organizing involved.  If you don't have time for that, do you have time to take a 15-minute walk after dinner?  If you could do that much, it might feel good and get you interested in doing more.  I should make it clear that I HATE exercise and I HATE the gym---I'm not one of those toned-up size 2 babes in the skin-tight workout clothes.  I started walking 8 years ago and it has meant that I can eat more than I used to, and I know I have a better outlook in some ways.  Plus it gets my doctor off my case. :)

Hi, I have five or so years on you, I have been on a number of meds, but for the past couple years have been relatively stable on Cymbalta (which does keep the black dog at bay and the dark abyss at a distance as well as keeping some chronic pain at a low roar).

Like Olga I hope you can keep nicotine free and find your 'sweet spot' with your new med.

I look forward to getting to know you. Welcome to CB.

thanks for the welcome indigo. before my husband died 10 years ago he told me i wasn't bad for an old broad. but NOW i'm old. Memory has become a real issue with me, It's more than just anxiety or my meds tho i read somewhere here that clonepin made memory worse so i just weaned myself off it. i really really hope this freakin buntillex works cuz i think the next stop may have to be ect and forget about memory then. no pun, etc.
