I hesitated to post this as it is not universal, however it may be of interest even outside the USA...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/03/14/what-happens-if-hillary-clinton-doesnt-run-for-president-chaos/?tid=up_next

One thing that everyone -- those who want Clinton to run and those who don't -- agrees on is that she has simply not made up her mind on the race yet and likely won't for some time. (Our guess for an announcement about her future? Around this time next year.) So, what happens if she decides not to run? In a word: Chaos. For three reasons:

1. There is a panoply of ambitious Democrats who watched Barack Obama leapfrog them in 2008 and won't want to miss their opportunity this time around.

2. If Clinton announced on March 1, 2015, there would only be 10 months before the calendar turned to 2016. Given how much her candidacy -- or at least her decision-making about her candidacy -- has and will continue to freeze the field, there would be a mad scramble for donors, activists and key consultants in early states the likes of which we haven't seen in modern presidential history.

3. There is no obvious front-runner in a Clinton-less field. Vice President Biden would be the nominal favorite for the nomination, but you could also make a credible case for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo or Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren or even New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand to occupy that space.

Some people who don't live there like to follow US politics too. Some of my friends stayed up all night in 2012 and 2008 to see the results come in and I know one guy with no connection to America who cried when Obama won in 2008. (Cried in a happy way, that is.) :)

I would like to see Hillary run too.

I want her to run, too, but keep your eye on Kirsten Gillibrand.  She was my Congresswoman, and then she was tapped to take Hillary's Senate seat when Hillary became Secretary of State.  She has been doing a lot of fund-raising for other women and Democrats, to help them hold onto the Senate majority.  AND.....she has been working very hard to address the issue of sexual assault in the military.  She wants the perpetrators to be tried in civil courts instead of a court of their peers, which I think would be the way to do it.

Anyway, someday when Hillary isn't in the picture any more, we have someone on the bench who has no baggage with an unfaithful husband, is a savvy politician, and is very intelligent.  I'm enjoying watching her ascent.

But that's all in the future.  I hope Hillary commits soon.

As a Canadian, my roommate and I were celebrating when Obama got in for his second term. I am looking forward to seeing who gets in for 2016 and rooting for Hillary.

Canadian politics are pretty boring, except for Rob Ford's antics this year... that's about as entertaining as it gets here.

I feel done with the whole Democrat/Republican tug of war. I strongly believe we need more political parties for our government to function. Bernie Sanders, an Independent from Vermont, has said he may run. Although I know he will not win, my vote will go to him if possible. He is a staunch supporter of Veteran's rights and personally intervened on behalf of my father when he was dying of Agent Orange induced cancer. The VA was (of course) trying not to pay for his treatment. Bernie got him the treatment he needed at no cost. He considers himself a socialist, and that is far closer to what I believe than most other parties. I was thrilled when Obama won, and voted for him both times, but he just seems like a regular politician to me these days and I feel extremely disillusioned with him. Hillary is very bright, obviously, but I'm just sick of mainstream politicians.

Hillary would have my vote no matter what.

I just don't feel like dealing with all the anticipating right wing backlash and smearing... all the sexism specifically... and every 5 seconds you know someone is going to bring up "BUT OMG REMEMBER BENGHAZI? THAT HAPPENED."

Totally me too.  I do NOT want to hear about her husband's affair or Benghazi ... but you know it will be brought up.  I know at least she can defend herself.

I dare say that many of us, if not most of us, are beyond exhausted with current mainstream politics/politics and the (two) party system, it is all we have available. More is the shame.

As the following link demonstrates other woman, of several "party affiliations" have run for the office of president. Since 1964 I have campaigned for at least a few. Hillary, while not the last best chance, is the current chance.

I'm a democrat, mainly because I can't agree with most of the conservative's social values.  I really don't want to see a staunch conservative become president, and I don't think it will happen because they align themselves to far to the right to be accepted by over 50% of the voters.

The democrat in me wants them to nominate someone like that, but I'd really like a moderate that isn't caught up in the politics  Ha ha on that.

It will be interesting in any case.  Some of the republicans think that Mitt Romney wasn't conservative enough, and some think he was too conservative.  Most of the people with the money to back the campaign were very conservative.  It will be interesting to watch and see what faction of the republicans will get the republican nomination.

I really think that Hillary will run.  By doing what she's doing, she's keeping out of the day to day issues that she would have to give her opinion on if she was to declare that she was definitely running.  The republicans that are posturing themselves to be a front runner for 2016 are having to give their opinion about almost everything, and that may turn out to bite them in the butt later on.

Hillary won't be getting my vote... I'm still pissed that she essentially almost gave the 2008 election to McCain by refusing to drop out, even when she was essentially out of it by March.  Hell, I think she's still running for the 2008 nomination.
