synthetic
Had pdoc visit yesterday and I brought up the problems I have been having recently concentrating on much of anything. It is all I can do to sit and read a magazine for thirty minutes. Anyway, he said he didn't think it was ADD, but probably related to the BP. He gave me some samples of Wellbutrin XL 150mg. Said it should help with concentration and the minor bouts of depression I have been having. I told him I was worried about it causing mania given my bad reactions to SSRIs. He said that was certainly a possiblity, so he wants to see me again in two weeks and if there are no mania problems, up it to 300mg. So, to my questions. Is two weeks enough time to tell how well it is working and to know if it will cause a manic reaction? Anyone taking/taken Wellbutrin for concentration problems and if so, how well or not well did it work?
igloo
I'm taking it for MDD but it has helped with concentration. I didn't notice any benefit in 2 weeks...pdoc upped dose anyway because of limited side effects and my reasons for taking are different from yours. Steve@3AM
I'm back on Wellbutrin XL. Now at 300 after 1 mo. Mostly for depression, but pdoc - and past experience indicates that it "somewhat" improves focus & concentration. However I have a lot of other issues so it is nowhere near a complete solution - for me. Might be just the edge that would help you. My personal feelings are that with so much on the line for you with BP, I might ride out the 150 for a full month. Wellbutrin does not seem quick to stabilize. On the other hand, if you haven't felt anything that even feels like it's activating your mania within 2 weeks your probably OK to increase. I think the activation part might show up more quickly than the AD effect. Hope it helps! & Happy Thanksgiving! "not a Dr. etc etc...." ScatterBrain_UK
I am taking WB for concentration problems, it works well but I am taking Concerta again alongside it. They kind of compliment each other, WB helps me personally more with shifting attention and 'sticking with' things I don't feel like doing, but it doesn't sharpen my focus like Concerta does. On their own they can each make me tired but together I am calm, relaxed but focussed.
Bombinadam1403
I'm on WB but also Concerta and I've just felt weird while I've been on them. I started them both at the same time. (I was on the Concerta before and stared at a wall for 15 minutes, it focused me that much) But, I just feel that I've not been able to focus. I mean, I've been focusing on things alot better since I've been them but I'm still getting distracted real easily. It's a 2 way street right now with me. Previous two experiences with SSRIs I didn't know what the fuck was going on, just that I was messed up. I guess it is worth a try if it actually helps. Took me about twice as long to write this post as it should have. My poor addled brain.
Loon-A-TiK
Since Wellbutrin is NOT an SSRI and is known to have a very, very low risk of causing mania, I wouldn't be too concerned about that part. Just keep it in the back of your already packed mind! A friend of mine took Wellbutrin and meds for ADD, and they seemed to work together well. He discontinued the Wellbutrin with no problems and still takes the Adderall (sp?). Give it a go, but try to give it more than 2 weeks. It is a rather side-effect free drug. synthetic
I seem to be one of those lucky people that has the worst side effects when starting a med. After three days worth of 150mg, I am getting the joys of nausea and headaches and general grogginess all at the same time. Hopefully it will abate in the next week or so. Still waiting for the improved concentration.

Greenyflower
Hi, I take 450 mgs Wellbutrin XL daily. It does help with concentration and motivation for me, but its effects in that regard built slowly over time. Greeny
Bianca
How come you're on 450mg? Did you move up b/c the 300mg wasn't working. I feel like I've got myself in a slump now. I upped my WB to 300mg last week and I didn't feel anything from it.
