reco49
Can I get some opinions on whether or not Zyprexa or Serquel would have any effect on quelling panicky thoughts throughout the day.I am on week 4 of Zyprexa 2.5mgs and at a recent visit with a pdoc,(not the one who prescribed Zyprexa) this new doc inferred to me that only the seditave effect would help me with anxiety/panic, but I read recently on another meds site that the seditive effect of these meds is not the primary benefit. That is the thought changing, mood stabilizer effect, taking away the Oh my god, What if, thoughts that I seem to dwell on.She even said I should maybe stop taking it except for help sleeping, but I dont want to because I think it is changing my thought patterns. I am also on 225mg Effexor and Clonazepam as needed, but have stayed off of the clony, just to see the effects of the Zyprexa alone. I am confused and then to top things off the doc said she would leave me a rx for serquel with her receptionist if I would like to switch after a few days off of zyprexa. Any thoughts appreceiated! P.S. I love Crazymeds
Guest
2.5 mgs is an awful little, I have been 20 mgs before now! I found 5-10mgs was enough for me to still function...is this just being prescribed for sedative purposes? I found that Zyprexa helped with some of my paranoia and anxiety. Whether reintroducing the Cloney will have effects I am not sure.
Batou
reco, I am not sure what you are asking. Can Seroquel help with intrussive, obessive thoughts and anxiety? Yes, Seroquel works well for many people. It is also Rx'd for BP, Seroquel is also used at smaller doses for insomnia and works very well even at small doses 25-50mg. Zyprexa and Seroquel are both APs and sedation can be an effect of both. But both meds also target other receptors that can help treat mania, symptoms of psychosis, and have mood stabilzing effects. You do not say say exactly why the first pdoc Rx'd Zyprexa. What is your Dx? What symptoms are you hoping to treat? Zyprexa and Seroquel can both be effective atypical anti-psychotics, they both may be used to treat similar symptoms. Everyone reacts differently to different medications, so what works for you may not work for soemone else. And, are you asking about taking Zyprexa and Seroquel together? Exactly what you are asking is not clear.

By that I mean I obsess over my bowel function in my mind as well as physically having symptoms sometimes. The reason I was givin the zyprexa was due to a hospital visit for a severe anxiety attack and i was seen by the resident pdoc. He thought the zyprexa and clanazepam would help me get through the start up period of effexor.(had only been on it 2 wks then)150mgs. I wasnt going to take zyprexa/seroquel together, I have the option of switching to seroquel from the pdoc who did the follow up appointment after my hospital visit. I'm thinking now that 2.5mgs of zyprexa will maybe just be for sleep help and maybe I should stick with the effexor/clonazepam combo. I'll try and get my thoughts together for my next post. I know that both zyprexa and seroquel can work really well on anxiety and racing thoughts. They level your mood out and calm you down. I prefer zyprexa because its once a day dosing and its less sedating but seroquel is not a bad choice though if you can handle its sedative effects. Bohemian
Zyprexa can help with panicky thoughts, though, I don't think its their focus. Best, Chris
wifezilla
My hubby's main med is lamictal, but he still has sleep and anxiety issues (though lamictal has taken care of the mania very well with little side effects....woohoo!). The seroquel is great for sleep problems, but the zyprexia seems to do a much better job on the anxiety.
