SO... I finally went in to a GP (not MY GP - he was not available - but one at the same practice)  for my bipolar depression that was just getting worse and worse while I was waiting to get into see a pdoc, more than a month away. She got me on Lexapro 10 mg and Lamictal (starting the normal titration 25mg for 2 weeks, etc. etc.)

...WELL about 6 days in I was getting symptoms of mania starting; not needing more than 2 hours sleep, racing thoughts, feeling impulsive, unable to sit still, DOING ALL THE THINGS!,  talking a mile a minute and talking over people ... Monday I had to leave work because of all this and got into my regular GP who said that it was absolutely the Lexapro and the Lamictal was not stabilizing enough to keep me from tending up to mania...so he switched me over to Seroquel XR 300 mg.

I'm still really UP UP UP UP but I was wondering if anyone else w/ Bipolar I has had the unfortunate experience of meds inducing mania...

(also sorry about the flighty-ness of this post, and hope it makes sense...my brain is ON FIRE WITH THOUGHTS :)

When I was moving up on the lamictal, I was really activated (as they say).  That went on for a week, a full blown hypomania or mania (depending on who you ask) crisis really that my tdoc later said she would have dumped me in the hospital had she known about it.  So.  Yes.  I still take lamictal but pairing it with lithium (depakote when I was way full blown nuts) has worked really well.  Granted, I was already on the high side a bit from a few weeks before when I had another hypomania or mania event that lasted approximately the same time, about a week.  That was before any meds at all except paxil.

I recently experienced hypomania and mixed episodes when I started Prozac this most recent time and was on 200 mg of Lamictal.  My pdoc discontinued the Prozac, bumped my Lamictal to 400 mg, then resumed the Prozac and I have not had any episodes.  The increased Lamictal is keeping my mood stable.
