jessicarabbit1993
I took latuda for my hallucinations and it worked great on my mind but it ruined my body! I gained 55 pounds in the few months that I took it and I've never had weight problems in my life. It made my joints and bones hurt and now I have graves disease (a type of hyperthyroidism)? side note: ive had my thyroid tested multiple times and never had a problem. Did anyone else experience any of this? Was it the latuda or was it me?

upset.the.world
Ah, Latuda. Actually, it was a life saver for me when I first went on it. At least, it wasn't as bad as previous antipsychs, and that means success to me. I was on twenty mg for about a year. It did screw with my blood sugar in a bad way and caused me to lose ten pounds right away when I really couldn't spare it. It also made my body unable to cool down, so I overheated pretty easy. I eventually had to quit cold-turkey because I was experiencing headaches that indicated toxic build up. So, yeah, not going on that one again. In retrospect, it was a lesser evil at the time, though. I haven't tried a single antipsych that I'd call mild. I could give every one of them some kind of bad rap, but, like I said, in the end, it's all about lesser evils.
AtomicMel
I've been on Latuda for about 3 or maybe 4 months now. Started at 20mg/day now at 60 mg. I did notice a bit of weight gain, but that seems to have leveled out and my weight seems stable. I'm always on the lookout for side effects, because while my immediate symptoms seem to be managed, i seem to have continued mental lethargy and anxiety, as well as certain types of task avoidance. Not sure if it's a side effect, or if some of my symptoms are taking longer than others to wane. In addition to the Latuda I've been on Adderall 20 mg x 3 daily, and 2 months ago added 1 mg xanax each evening for anxiety and to help me get to sleep. Regulating my daily sleep patters has probably been the best thing I've done to improve my symptoms, which were off the charts for about 12 weeks last spring/summer. I suddenly started presenting extreme symptoms of every psych disorder known to man, without quite qualifying for any single diagnosis. Somewhat disturbing to me that nobody can quite tell me what kicked up such extreme and broad symptoms so quickly, when i had no preivous symptoms of anything other than garden variety adhd. I guess the most important thing is that I'm doing better, but I still wonder about what/why i suddenly developed such extreme symptoms of Mixed-sate, extreme bi-polar mania and even schizoid.paranoid delusional symptoms. Yikes. My cognitive function was gone, I had what looked like dementia and would often wander off and get lost in my own neighborhood for hours, lose my glasses like ten times a day and cry uncontrollably when i could not find them. I'm doing much better now, and I presume the latuda is what leveled me out.
Equivilency
I've been taking Latuda for awhile now. It was a lifesaver at first, then the night awakenings and extreme lethargy during the day began.. Can't say I gained weight but I really scrutinize every meal and drag myself to the gym 3 days a week.
AtomicMel
WOW, Thank you. I didn't know the night awakenings could be related. I seem to sleep in 3 x 3 hour cycles, at best. And my dreams are a little weird too. I find myself procrastinating common tasks during the day and get very annoyed with myself.
Equivilency
Yep same problem. I really want to do things, I'm just so lethargic my mind wants to do nothing... its frustrating. I'm trying to switch soon. One of the side effects listed is somnelence with 20% of people in the trials having it. WOW, Thank you. I didn't know the night awakenings could be related. lysergia
what time of day do you take your latuda? at first i started taking it in the morning, and by noon the sedative effects were impossible to stay awake through. i also slept fitfully at night, now that i take the latuda at night, all that seems to have stopped. it's actually really hard to take a nap in the daytime now, unless i've taken a PRN i can't fall asleep. maybe none of that will be true for anyone else, but i thought i would throw it out there. Wonderful.Cheese
I took 80mg for a year probably, and it did nothing for me. No tiredness, no weight gain, but also no improvement.
MrTastybutt
Latuda worked well for my positive symptoms. I didn't notice any weight gain but I did seem much hungrier on it. My thyroid has been borked since the early 90's. I wish I could care enough to take it again.
San
I'm going to move this to Antipsychotics, there are a lot of latuda topics there getting lots of replies, and I'll leave a link on the Schizophrenia board for ya.
