Properly prescribed AD switch/disc.

Recommended Posts

Couldn't think of a good topic title for this...I switched (just recently) from 60 mg of Cymbalta to 10 mg of Lexapro.  (BTW was on Cymbalta for about 5 months).  I was told by my psychat. to take 30 mg. of Cymbalta for 5 days and then switch to the 10 mg. of Lexapro.

Was this sound advice?

Does this sound like a proper change to you all?

Thanks Kris.

I had a med change from 100 mg zoloft to 30 mg Cymbalta recently. The idea was to start me up on a low dose Cymbalta to avoid Seratonin syndrome.

I would guess that your pdoc has the same idea, when he switches you from Cymbalta to Lexapro. So yeah, it sounds pretty reasonable too me.

Hope the Lexapro is working out for you.

Yes, this is pretty reasonable.

The idea is to keep some level of antidepressant in your system rather than going down to nothing (or practically nothing due to half-lives) so that you don't get more depressed during the change.

There are a few meds where you need the previous completely out of your system before you can start the new one. But Cymbalta and Lexapro are not among them.
