I found this board while trying to research my new medication and decided to join.

Some background-I'm about to turn 31, married 12 years, 3 kids (Boy-11, Girl-7, Girl2-4). I've struggled with major depression all my life, but was only diagnosed after the birth of my second child. I was also diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. My grandmother and many of her siblings and my aunt have classic bipolar. My mother is undiagnosed but is likely bipolar and borderline personality disorder. I've had a doc suggest I have bipolar II, but never been diagnosed as such. I have also been a self-injurer since I was 17 and while I've had periods of sobriety, it's an addiction I struggle greatly with.

I have tried many SSRI's and SNRI's over the years...Lexapro, Zoloft, Cymbalta, BuSpar, Wellbutrin, Pristiq, Effexor, and Brintellix (my current drug), as well as Xanax, Klonopin (current), Ambien (current), Trazadone, and Resteril. I'm in the middle of a med switch now...titrating down from Effexor and onto Brintellix. Too soon to tell how it's going.

I changed pdoc about a month ago because I felt my care was being mismanaged with my previous doctor, resulting in my going off of my zoloft and ambien cold turkey and sending me from a mild depression to a major depressive episode. That's where I currently reside.

I don't work, but I am in school. I'm going to the local community college to finish up some pre-req's and in the fall am transferring to a 4 year college for nursing school. It's terrifying! But I can't wait to get finished and have my career.

I don't have much time for hobbies, but when I do have a rare moment I love reading and photography.

I hope the switch to Brintellix is successful.  I know its stressful switching meds.
