Cenocat
Has anyone else experienced olfactory hallucinations on Concerta? It's been 6 weeks since my dose was increased and pretty much since day 3 I've been smelling cigarette smoke. And I don't mean "oh someone's smoking nearby" type of smoke, I mean "stuck in a ventilation free room with 8 smokers and Joe Camel" type of smoke. Sometimes it's so strong I swear my lungs start to hurt from breathing in all the phantom smoke. So is this happening to anyone else or am I alone on this particular crazy boat? Oh yeah, how the heck do I make it stop?
Indigo 'n dye
I do not take Concerta, but I have experienced phantosmia. Although Dr. Weil is not a wholly reliable source of credible information, nonetheless... http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/QAA400682/Phantosmia-Smelling-Smoke-All-the-Time.html A consultation with an Ear, Nose, Throat doc is always the first step. dancingteapot
Strange. I'm on Concerta too and I was tasting cigarettes (I don't smoke). I was recently put on it.
crtclms
Could it be an aura? Do you have migraine or epilepsy? Smelling things that aren't there is a common aura, and there are a few smells that are more common (although everyone is different). I smell burning wood, to the extent I have to go outside and make sure there isn't a fire nearby. That is almost always followed by a migraine. I also taste something metallic sometimes. Another common one is the smell of burnt plastic, but I don't have that one. Please don't think I am diagnosing you, but I do think you probably should see a neurologist, even if it is just to eliminate those possibilities. It is possible (possible) the cigarette smell is some kind of temporal lobe seizure. Or maybe some kind of migraine (there are a zillion different presentations for migraines). But such a notable change in symptoms should be discussed with doctor
