lavender fairy
I saw my gdoc yesterday, and it seems I have gained 30 pounds in the last 5 months. And my weight is about twice what it ought to be. He's concerned, and I'm concerned. I haven't had much seccess with changing my diet on the basis of self-will. My appetite is huge. So gdoc suggested I try a weight loss drug called Adipex. It's a stimulant, and it's supposed to decrease my appetite. It appears to be highly regulated, and I can only take it for 3 months, but the doc seems to believe I can loose the 30 pounds in that time if I also change my diet. I just wondered if anyone else has tried this med? or if there are any other suggestions for weight loss. I NEED to do something. I don't want to have to go the route of weight loss surgery. My mother did, and she ended up dying from stomach cnacer, which is aparently high in people who have had the surgery.
forgetmenot220
I took phentermine, sounds similar (maybe it's the same?), I had side effects that I didn't like, like increased blood pressure, racing heart, etc. I was warned that could happen. The highest dose is 37.5 mg and that's what worked, too bad the SEs happened. I may give it another shot. I hope it works for you! I was thinking the surgery route but I didn't realize the rate of stomach cancer is high in obesity surgery patients. Bummer. Sorry about your mom, that must have been hard. lavender fairy
Phentermine is the same drug. I just figured it would be better known by Adipex since that's the brand name. Sorry you had intolerable side effects. I hope it works out for you if you try it again. I'm not so sure how high the risk is of stomach cancer with the surgery. I haven't actually researched it. I was just told that there is an increased risk, and I suspect it's even higher with a family history of the disease. My mom and I weren't close when she died, but it was still hard. So, thanks. I'm just so frustrated with myself right now. My mom was morbidly obese my entire life, and I told myslef I would never be like her. Well, here I am. I don't weigh anywhere near what she weighed, but still where I am is not ok.
Jadienne
Phentermine worked for me in the beginning but made me very sick so much so that my t-doc urged me to get off of it and now it has just made me sleepy and not want to do anything. In the past Tenuate (aka Amfepramone aka Diethylpropion) worked for me and made me lose eight pounds without even trying; you could always inquire about that. stephanieL
Hey guys. When you say Phentermine diet pills decreases the hunger do you literally mean it? If yes, does it mean you don't want to eat at all because I don't eat much anyway. But I know even when I lose weight I still need vitamins from products. I think I an quite lost in this department...
confused
I am looking into a similar med, a combo of phenteramine and topomax. I have had trouble sticking to diets because I get too hungry. I am hoping this works. I have to have some tests done first before they will prescribe it.
larkspur
i did two courses of phentermine. it keeps you awake and it keeps you from feeling super hungry, like any stimulant. it has very serious psychological side effects as a possibility. for me, i had really horrible edema in my feet and ankles, it was very uncomfortable, and i retained so much water that i didn't really lose any weight. HellenaHandbasket
I have taken phententermine a few times. It gives you a killer cotton mouth. But you won't be the tiniest bit hungry - I had to remind myself to eat after a day or two. Must be very careful if bipolar like me; it sends me manic pretty quickly if I take it for too long. confused
I started Qsymia on Friday and my mouth is soooo dry. I am on a low calorie diet (mostly packaged food) for a week and I don't like it very much. I can add vegetables and broccoli never tasted so good in comparison. I go back tomorrow and I should be able to eat regular food. I don't get too hungry and every day is a little easier.I don't notice any other effects of the medication, but did I mention my mouth is dry. I have been using an app called myfitnesspal that helps track your calories. I lost some weight before I started the medication just following some instructions from the dietician and the goals from the app. I have been sedentary and I am going to start walking. There is a 3 mile loop here that i think would be good.
