Anybody taken one of these before. It's methylprednisolone in one those dose packs where you start out 6 pills first day, 5 second, 4 third, etc.....

Been having mid back pain the last few weeks and doc wants me to try out the dose pack to see if it can kill the inflammation. Its weird back pain though. It only really bothers me like early in the morning when I'm sleeping. I'll wake up like at 4 or 5AM with my back aching and no matter wht position I get it in it still hurts. Once I'm up an moving around though it gets better. Doesnt bother me throughout the day.

So anyway, the side ffects kind of bug me. Never taken a steroid before. Anybody have any experience with this?

Ive taken that after a tooth extraction. I had all four of my wisdom teeth out at the same time. I don't remember having any side effects from it but I hear that many bipolar patients have difficulty with steroids. Ive used prednisone for my pain but found that tramadol works better for me than small dose prednisone.

If you are bipolar, it could be a problem. I am not bipolar, but it put me into a state that could only be described as hypomania the first time I took it. It gave me a feeling of extreme well-being. The second time I took it (due to bronchitis), I didn't get that effect.

The important thing is that you have to take it exactly as prescribed. You have to taper off due to the fact that you could suffer from adrenal failure if you come off too suddenly.

For the short time you will be on it, I don't think that side effects will be a problem. The side effects are really only bad for people who take it long-term.

I take varying amounts of prednisone on a more or less regular basis as well as Medrol dosepax for breakthrough symptoms.

Have you tried sleeping with a pillow between your thighs/knees? Sometimes that relieves the pressure on the pelvic girdle joints and reduces the inflammation and pain.

I have not but thanks for the suggestion. Ive been trying to glean as much info on mid back pain as I can but the cast of majority of info I find on the web is for lower back or neck pain. I'm not sure the pillow between the legs would help with mid back but I might give it a shot. I've been to the chiroprctor 6 times but I dont think its done much. He took a few x rays of my spine and said it looked great. I have gotten back into running recently and think maybe I've tweaked something but I'm not sure. I'd hate to think its my bed as its only like 6 years old(and it was expensive as hell, not cheaply made) but I dont think it is. But like I said it only bugs me in the early morning and once I'm up and moving it gets better. I can move freely, lift things, go running and it doesnt hurt. It's strange.

So hopefully the pack works. Reading online some folks find it miraculous.

Like you, I had a fairly new bed with a lovely pillow top. Yet my joints were horrific in the early morning. At the suggestion of my physical therapist I bought a 4 inch memory foam topper with a four inch faux goose down cover. It was costly, but not outrageous so, and it did make a very real difference in my shoulders, hips and knees.

Back pain is sooooooooooooo debilitating. I empathize.

Yeah, the getting out of bed 2-3 hours before I'm ready gets old real quick. I just don't see how it can be my bed though. I mean I've slept fine on it for six years and one morning out of the blue my back decides it doesnt like it anymore? Anythings possible I guess, but it will be the last thing on my list after I've tried everything else or a cause isnt found.

I am actually. I didnt have much pain this morning. But I also took a couple of aleve with supper last night so that might've helped too. I'm going to skip the aleve tonight and see how I do. I was concerned the medrol might give me some insomnia but I slept pretty good. But I was pretty much exhausted. I can definitely feel a surge of energy after I take a pill. Its a pleasant, I want to get some shit done feeling. I can see how people who have BP might have problems with it.
