Cancelling out effects?

Recommended Posts

Can Trileptal make my Adderall not work? I realize I am on Latuda as well, but I've been on that for 2 years and never had a problem with Adderall not working. I got on Trileptal a week ago, and even the last few days, my Adderall did nothing. I even fell asleep in the library right after taking one the other day! I need it to work because of school and work. I know many people get by without it but I've been on Adderall for about 16 months now and to have it be ineffective is just disconcerting. What else could be causing this? Or am I just tired lately and not even know?

The only thing that's going to directly counteract the effects of a stimulant is an AP.  Indirectly, a large enough dose of anything that makes you feel sleepy and stupid is going to make you feel sleepy and stupid stimulant or no stimulant.

I was on tegretol for a while but never tried trileptial.  The drugs are very similar.  It made me sleepy and stupid despite being on a high dose stimulant.

I ran Trileptal and Adderall through the interaction tracker at drugs.com and it did not report any interactions. I even ran Tegretol + Adderall through and no interactions. So I don't think the problem is an interaction, but of course, I'm not a doctor. You should ask your doctor if you have a serious concern.

Edit: While it is true that Trileptal is an enzyme-inducing drug, it does not affect all meds that you take. Only meds metabolized via that particular enzyme. So you really need to check the PI to see whether an interaction has been reported, otherwise something like drugs.com can be helpful. And, of course, if you have doubts, ask your doctor.
