Max number of days w/o Lamictal? I ran out....

Recommended Posts

Like a moron, I let myself run out of Lamictal, and took my last dose Friday night, so I have missed one dose (last night's), and if I don't get some, it will be tomorrow until I can get a refill, or about 60 hours between doses, instead of 24.  The pharmacy is closed for Easter.

I live in a rural area so my options are limited.  If this happened to you, would you wait until tomorrow morning, or call the pdoc's answering service and request that they call in a prescription for a couple of pills to a pharmacy in the nearest big city, about a 100 mile round trip?

The other alternative is to visit the ER, which is closer, but of course there's no way to determine the waiting time.

Personally, if it was a guarantee that you could get some lamictal first thing in the morning tomorrow, then I would hold off.  But going much longer IMO isn't a good idea.  It is a long round trip but you might have to start over titrating up if you wait too long.

I went 3 days without lamictal and my pdoc practically freaked out.  He said any longer and I'd have to start titrating back up from the beginning.

That's interesting, because my pdoc said I would have to re-titrate *on* the 5th day, but was okay skipping it until then. It's hard for me to get to the pharmacy some times because I can hardly ever drive because of my head, so he doesn't recommend it, but he knows it is going to happen.

So that should clear things up for you. :) It's either 2, 3, or 4 days.

If you know for sure that you will be able to get some Lamictal in the morning I would hold off till then.

I missed 3 doses once and was concerned and called pdoc who said I would be ok, but to take it ASAP or else I would have to re-titrate.

Wow, thanks for all the fast replies!  Since it's 70 and sunny, I think I will sit tight and enjoy the rest of the day, and get to the regular pharmacy first thing in the morning.  If I start going bonkers, I'll post back with my experiences.
