swingerofbirches
I had posted another thread recently because I suddenly became very agitated, anxious, stopped sleeping well, lost my appetite and lost about 10 lbs about two weeks ago. I wrote that thread in the benzo forum because to me it felt like my benzos had stopped working. But it was also at the same time that my pharmacy switched me to Aurolife/Aurobindo paroxetine, and I'm wondering if I have a reaction to it. And I'm realizing the benzo isn't a problem because it does help with the agitation—I can feel it working, just not enough for all this energy and agitation. A lot of the info online is for Aurobindo from around 2009 with people saying they thought it wasn't effective, but that was when Aurobindo (in India) was making the product. For the US market it's now made by Aurolife, which is in the US. This hasn't been by my normal anxiety. I haven't had a single panic attack. I've just felt very agitated. I felt like this once before when I was on brand name Paxil and it was recalled due to super potency (it had 33% more active ingredient than it was supposed to). Does anyone else take Aurolife paroxetine? Do you find it more potent than others? Are there other generics that are known to be less agitating? AnxietyGirl74
I take Mylan and it's not agitating. I've taken that generic for regular Paxil and Paxil CR.

I finally ended up switching to see if it would help. My pharmacy had Zydus so I just started that today, but I can't tell what it'll do yet. I was actually hoping they'd have Mylan as I saw it's made in West Virginia.

From what I've heard serotonin syndrome is fairly easy to achieve when you mix serotonin drugs (like Paxil and St. John's Wort). I had previously heard that it was difficult to have serotonin syndrome from just 1 agent (like if you were just taking Paxil), but I recently read on uptodate.com (which is fairly well respected), that you can potentially get it from just one SSRI at a therapeutic dose. Today I am feeling a bit more calm--so maybe switching to Zydus is helping. It's hard to tell yet because I am also having the horrible feeling you get when you have insomnia. I am finally more tired, which is a good thing, but it's that really icky tired feeling. I describe it as feeling like my brain is dry and hot, which might not make a lot of sense. And I can't think well--been making a lot of simple mistakes today. I am finally seeing my pdoc tomorrow. I'm not sure if she will make changes or not. The other complication is that I saw my regular doctor yesterday who did all these tests on me (hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, etc.) and the results may not be back before the psychiatrist. I just want to feel back to normal, which wasn't fantastic, but it was comfortable! Hope to be there soon. I also have relatives coming from out of town today and we're going on vacation Thursday. Vacation isn't usually "vacation" to me. I see no reason to leave my home, as I've never gone to a hotel that has a bed as comfortable as my own. Anxious_chick
I had been using Walgreens for my Alprazolam Er prescription. Without them telling me (no sticker on the bottle, notification on the paperwork, etc.), the pharmacy switched from Actavis to Aurobindo (Actavis in June 2019 to Aurobindo in July 2019). One day after starting the Aurobindo generic, I developed an itchy rash on my arm and was definitely anxious/irritable. Thankfully, I had an appt. with my p-doc this past Tuesday, and he was able to call in a new prescription. I had to call around, and Costco is the only pharmacy in my city to carry Actavis (Walgreens and CVS are both now filling the ER versions by Aurobindo, but not the short-acting). I had to get Anthem to do an over-ride due to the fact that I just filled the script last Saturday, but I was able to fill it today. I believe I'm allergic to one or more inactive ingredients. I've also seen a few medications made by Aurobindo pulled recently. Walgreens and my doctors (family doctor and specialists) have all noted on my chart not to prescribe Aurobindo generics. You heard wrong I am afraid: Quote The serotonergic toxicity of SSRIs increases with dose, but even in over-dose is insufficient to cause fatalities in healthy adults [3]. It is usually only when drugs with different mechanisms of action are mixed together that elevations of central nervous system serotonin reach potentially fatal levels. The most frequent (and perhaps the only) combination of therapeutic drugs likely to elevate serotonin to that degree is the combination of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) with serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs). Serotonin releasers like amphetamine and the street drug MDMA, ecstasy (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine) can cause fatalities if mixed with MAOIs, usually moclobemide, which is more readily available than the old irreversible MAOIs (tranylcypromine, phenelzine etc) [5]. https://psychotropical.com/serotonin-toxicity-summary/
