manicgem
So I found this board a long time ago, but never joined because I felt I didn't need the support. Well of course things change. I'm really good at rambling, but I'll try to keep this short. I'm bipolar type 1, much more prone to mania (I was diagnosed via a dramatic manic/psychotic episode) than depression (although mine is usually so mild it seems insulting to call it depression). I managed to graduate college on time, even after my diagnosis junior year. I then went on to a Ph.D. program in earth sciences in a university far from home (gee, how many bad decisions could I make in one move?). Remarkably, I was fine for the past two years (with the help of Lithium/Seroquel and excellent doctors) until last week. I noticed myself having hypomanic symptoms last week and did my best to relax until I could talk to my pdoc. She upped my Seroquel which is helping, but now I think I might be sleeping too much. I was able to stay away from school until Friday, when I had to talk to my advisor about some BS paperwork. He said I have to really step it up in the lab work department, which is totally true but it still set me off (not in front of them, thank God). I have so much to do yet I'm still agitated and not sure I'll be okay to go back next week (even though he'll be gone). Anyway, I should probably go to bed now, but this seems like a cool place. MiaB
Hi manicgem, and welcome (officially) to CB. I'm sorry you're struggling at the moment. My bipolar manifests in a similar way to what you described, so I can relate there. Please feel free to join in on the discussions, including on our board for students. Please read our rules (in the bottom righthand corner) if you haven't already, and don't hesitate to contact a staff member if you need help with anything. Jay Jhonson
Hi, i'm Jay & new here too, though it seems like a nice big family in here and i cant help like feeling a little like an outsider right now >< reading the rules on here was refreshing though compared to the ridiculously robotic rules that I've seen on other forums and outright refused joining O.O
