Sue_b87
Hi, I'm VERY new to this whole forums thing, but after reading some things from this post I think you guys might be able to help me! I am currently on Seroquel, but I was looking into talking to my pdoc about switching to Latuda because the seroquel is causing some MAJOR consitpation issues with me, and I am tired of taking laxitives and acidophilus pills to help counter-act it (acidophilus isn't working so well anymore and I'm running out of things to try). I know this post if kinda old, but has anyone have any updated success stories about switching over? I'm really nervous because seroquel works for me, but I really can't take the constipation anymore. Thanks!
dragonfly79
Hello, Sue. I am currently on Latuda, and unfortunately it has not been good for me. It is controlling a lot of the psychosis at 120mg, but I have been getting mood swings and anxiety since being on it. With that said, I have heard wonderful things about this med. Just because it does not work for me does not mean it won't for you. It also messes with my sleep cycle. I have crazy dreams and wake up every 2-3 hours, even though I am still on a small dose of Zyprexa. If I drink any caffeine, I am extremely agitated, nervous, anxious, etc. But I have not heard anyone else complain of this. I have been on Seroquel too. I couldn't stay on it because it made me sleep all day. I am currently switching to Abilify and hope that does the trick. I hope more people who take or have taken Latuda will post so you get a more balanced picture. My experience may not be common.
Sue_b87
Thanks guys for the responses. I have tried miralx before, it wasn't doing anything. I tried for a month, my body does the same thing of not cooperating. I have heard from others websites that people complain about Latuda messing with your sleep. And my body has gotten so used to being able to sleep without the racing thoughts that not sleeping would be a major concern. I don't sleep right if I skip just one night of the seroquel, so getting up ever 2-3 hours a night would be torturous! I wouldn't be able to function at work and with having a desk job I need the extra caffiene in the first place. I understand about the late night snacking, the seroquel does that to me without fail, it seems as soon as it starts kicking in and I'm getting drowsy I get the munchies, it rather annoying. Since I've started seroquel I've gained about 30 pounds so I really don't want to add an extra 350 calories a day especially right before bed. I made the appointment to talk my pdoc on Monday so between now and then I hope to have a good idea of which direction I want to take. Oh, as for the fluids, I already drink between 3-4 16oz bottles of water a day, not including the other drinks that I have to. Thank you again for help with this! lysergia
i didn't have great success with latuda. i think i got only side effects and not benefits. i've been off it for about three weeks (i think) and i don't notice anything different except that now i can actually lose weight (not a pound would budge while i was on it, and i gained about 15-20 pounds taking it). however, that doesn't say much about how it will work for you. i did have very restless sleep on latuda. taking 50mg of seroquel every night fixed that quite nicely. Equivilency
My only problem with the latuda was the sleep thing. I take klonopin every night to keep me asleep..
Sue_b87
Again, Thank you guys for your help! I go to the doctor tonight and talk to him about this. I was also thinking maybe if I raised the dosage for the seroquel that the problems might go away. I was fine when I was on the lower dose of it, and this all started when I was raised last time, maybe I'll have the same luck and it'll go away! Hopeful thinking of course, I've learned to not get my hopes up lol. Dnautics, does the klonopin give you any drowsy-ness the next morning? I've also heard that klonopin is good for anxiety (which I have plenty to spare!), I just can't stand the next morning (kinda like when you take benadryl and you get benadryl-head the next day) But it's sopmething I could definitely mention. I have alot of options to go over (I did a little excessive research on different meds) so wish me luck!
koa
I've found latuda to be a good drug for me. The only negative for the drug for me is that I have to take it with a midnight snack, because it causes drowsiness and it must be consumed with food. If you are worried about the calories you can budget for them a little bit, perhaps by eating a little less at dinner time.
crtclms
My Psychiatric PRN Intake appt was Thursday. The more I think about it, the more I pissed I get: I need a fucking pharmacologist. We do have a plan but it was pretty much lifted from my pdoc in San Jose: 1) Titrate off of Wellbutrin (after 25 years, we think it is now more anxiety inducing that an anti-depressant), and cross tirating with Latuda (is this safe?). The more I think about the PRN, the more worried a get. She mentioned Latuda, and I said "Oh, an AAP." And she said no, it was an anti-depressant. It can have AD effects. I thought maybe I was mistaken, but looked it up once I got home. So she didn't know that Latuda was an AAP. I know I might find it very useful, but you would think she could keep classes of med separated. Anyway, we may push the lithium (take it as an add-on, 300mg BID, blood level last checked (it was .6) was checked again last week, but no results yet. Maybe because I started so low, I can go up. Once I am more stable, she wants me of the Xanax. I argued about it (which I think took her aback). I told her how I had used it for 8 years, and had never gone up in dosage. I told her my pdoc would be happy to speak with her (he told me that). She said it was too addictive. HELLO! I have been using it since 2006, and am not addicted. Is this supposed to magically happen out of the blue? The compromise was that she would do a genuine, several month titration for the Xanax, but will put me on Diazepam soon. Sorry for derailing the thread; I started it with good intentions.
lysergia
crtclms, i'd be pissed too. i'm sorry you have to work with someone new that seems to want to meddle with meds that work (and not knowing what latuda is scares me).
crtclms
Lys, the more I think about it, the more worried I get. PLUS, it sure would be nice to have someone who could renew all my scripts, instead of my having to call 3 different PRN's office to get my scripts started. I am a new patient, I don't have renewals, so their office has to call the Pharmacy. I am out of a lot of stuff; I have enough of the meds that might make me seize if I stop them, but have zero meds for migraine. I already called my PCP for some renewals, and the request vanished into the ether. *whine* I just can't believe I do not have one. single. MD, not even in a supervisory role. Except for the urologist I acquired when I was hospitalized, but I need a surgeon; He is not in the U of Utah system, however.

Melina
I switched from Abilify5mg to Latuda40mg and so far so good I have only been on it a littler over two weeks and so far haven't had any side effects or any I notice I hope it stays that way tired of gaining weight on antipsychotic meds that seems to be the only side defect I have while on a lot of psych medicines cause weight gain and I am hoping Latuda doesn't so far it hasn't but I always worry about that. I cant gain any more weight I would rather be losing or have that as a side effect. My Doctor told me that the Latuda causes a little weight gain and may not cause any side effect at all depends on the person everyone reacts different to different meds some have little to no side effects some have many side effects. I am hoping for no side effects so far haven't had any but like I said I haven't been on it long to tell yet but I think this will be the right medicine for me I also take Lexapro been taking it for 11 years with no problems at all. Penelope135
I was on LaTuda for approximatly a year before I had a stroke in July 2012. The neoroligists at the hospital took me off it because 1 sided effect is strokes. My psych convinced me they were wrong and put me back on it (80mg. Within a month I was having seizures. According to neuroligist it causes them too but mine are deffinately caused by stroke too. My neuro was mad when I wouldn't go back on it. Anyway I have severe epilepsy now and have to be contious of stroke (meds, nutrition, exercise, etc). I would do a lot of research if I were to be one going on it. Schizophrenic_Sanity
I'm taking Latuda and it's working fairly well. The only negative is I have to eat at night to take it because it knocks me out so that kind of sucks. Alien Navel Cord
Seroquel is what I am on now, and the doctor mentioned latuda the last time I was there, in case the Seroquel didn't work for me. It seems to make me irritable and anxious, as well as no matter what dose I take.. 100mg, 150 mg, or 300.. I am sleepy and have no energy. Fatigue and weight gain are also issues. So I am going to see him in late July, should I ask about Latuda? I read it helps with memory which is a BIG problem for me in general too. I keep hearing good things about latuda. I was given the seroquel for bipolar depression, does latuda help with that too
Wonderful.Cheese
Latuda is approved for bp depression. It didn't do anything for me at all. Didn't help the voices or my mood. I like seroquel much better. It works, but you are right it can cause weight gain. I don't get tired from it at any dose. I hope you find something that works for you. dancingteapot
I was on 800mg of Seroquel for quite some time ...it just made me fat...don't know about symptom control Now I'm on 80mg of Latuda Idk if it's working because I'm on other meds So I have no clue what's helping In my case...I'm having some difficulty I'd like to think that the Latuda is doing something
Alien Navel Cord
The seroquel is making me terribly irtitable, 'meh', arguementative, agressive, etc.. and then when I take it, no matter what dose (high, low) I am sedated and it sucks. it also does nothing for my awful anxiety. So I am hoping the Latuda will help. I see my pdoc in a month after his vacation. Until then, I am self-titrating my dose down so I don't get sick.
