Melina
Has anyone ever heard of Latuda?Well I just started it today for the first time after being on Abilify5mg I am now starting on Latuda40mg to help with the symptoms I have just started having.I have been feeling depressed frustrated, sad, angry and other emotions as well all wrapped in one I went to see my psychiatrist today and he told me he could either raise the dose of the Abilify5mg I didn't want that because it really made me sleep long hours I would get up and still barely be able to keep my eyes open so the only other option was to change my Abilify5mg to something else which he did I just took it this evening with my evening meal because you have to for the medicine to process right if you take it on a empty stomache it may not work right or at all.I told him exactly how I felt. I hope this new med Latuda40mg works well for me for a Long time and doesn't cause any weight gain or side effect I read about the side effects and one was weight gain like the Abilify5mg except it doesn't cause as much weight gain as the Abilify5mg did I read it can cause 1 to 2 pounds weight gain I hope that's the case for me I can deal with that. Everyone is different and processes meds different then again it may not cause any side effects at all that's what I am really hoping for that it takes care of my depression and Anxiety mainly and has a mood stabilizer as well keeping my mood evened out I am good. Well anyhow weight gain is at the top of my list as far as frustration and Anger that's the main reason I am angry that everyone else seems to have things go their way and me on the other hand have to struggle to even get by in life why is that? Why me? Let me correct that last statement and ask why a lot of people not everyone has things go right for them all the time I cant speak for everyone just some people have lives better. Melina
My Mom took Metformin at one time but I have no reason to take it since I don't have diabetes since that's usually what its prescribed for. I am on my third day of taking this new medicine called Latuda40mg which is a higher dose than my Abilify I was taking 5mg of it but every medicines dosage is different. I wish I could only just take one pill a day instead of two the Latuda must be taken with food to process in my body the way its supposed to do if I don't take it with food or it wont work or process right. So I take Latuda40mg with my evening or afternoon meal and the n at night before bed I take Lexapro20mg so far so good but like I said its only been a few days being on Latuda.Usually antipsychotic meds and some anti-depressants take at least two to 6 weeks to get the full effect. Anyhow I will keep taking it as long as it works for me I will let everyone know whether it works well for me or not at all hopefully I wont have to go back to Abilify which was terrible at weight gain. I read Latuda40mg causes less weight gain then Abilify5mg and only 1 to 6 percent people have that side effect with this medicine. I hope I am not in the percentage group because I don't want to gain anymore weight I mean I cant afford to get any bigger than I already am so no or little side effects I am hoping for none at all that would be nice. Equivilency
Geodon and Latuda are known for being pretty weight neutral. Some people gain, but the odds are in your favor!
Melina
thanks for your reply and everyone else who replies to my message. I also take Lexapro and the Doctor told me Lexapro doesn't have the many side effects that's Abilify5mg had.I was on Abilify5mg for 11 years been wanting to change because I gained some weight on it not as much as I did on Resperdol and Paxil was even worse for weight gain hopefully I wont gain any on Latuda. koa
I moved this topic from the antidepressants section to the antipsychotics section since Latuda is an antipsychotic and not an antidepressant.
Melina
Update on Latuda40mg I have been on it so far for two weeks without any problems or side effects or none I am aware of anyway so far so good keep your Fingers crossed that another two weeks of being on Latuda40mg and it will continue to work for me. So far I have been Stable, Mellowed out sometimes in my personal Zone which is good at times. I don't feel angry or as angry as I was or depressed maybe still a little but it was getting to be severe and I don't want that. Will post in another two weeks of being on this medicine and let everyone know if I have any side effects hoping I don't at all which is the case so far I haven't noticed anything different but you should be able to tell by 6 weeks into taking a new med whether its the one for you or not I think this is going to be the right medicine for me. I am happy with it so far. I see my Psychiatrist June the 3rd at 11:30am will post again then after I get back from seeing him.
J718
Please do keep posting. I may have to switch from Abilify to Latuda too—it depends on how my most recent round of bloodwork turns out. I have also gained some weight on Abilify which is just making me even more depressed. I really hope it works out for you.
Melina
thank you I hope it works out for me as well I will keep everyone updated on how I am doing on Latuda40mg still too early for me to tell if I will have any side effects or not and it seems the only side effect I do have when I do have any is almost always weight gain so I hop that wont be the case with Latuda40mg.Abilify was horrible for causing weight gain and adding inches to your waistline I went from 42 inches one time to 50 in a few days or so and gained like 5 to 10 pounds which is small but adds up if you're not careful but I have noticed not being as hungry on Latuda40mg even though I have only been on it almost three weeks will be a month June the 12th went on it May 12th of this year.Take care and I also wish you well as well and everything works out for you @J718
Melina
Been on Latuda40mg for over a month now no side effects other than feeling worn out or tired all the time. Plus I had been depressed these last two weeks despite being on Latuda40mg and Lexapro20mg which I also take. But I haven't noticed any weight gain I have stayed the same weight for awhile now haven't gained haven't lost either which is my fault for not eating right and I still need to do better as far as how much I eat and start exercising I may start tonight riding my stationary Bike we have down in our basement. I have a bike that has been sitting in the garage wont ride it until I do lose weight on the Stationary Bike Just have to get my Fat butt in gear and quit being so down right Lazy I admit I probably could lose weight if I tried harder and not lay on the couch so much you eat and lay around you're going to get fat or fatter, and you're going to be weak laying around not doing anything at all. Tired of struggling with weight gain I am stopping taking Diet pills the more pills I take the sicker I get and most diet pills don't work but only make you hungry and eat more anyone else notice that diet pills don't work its long term exercise and a strict Diet that really work for long term weight loss. Sorry haven't posted in a long time if anyone wants to give advice on how I can lose some weight without taking Diet pills give me a shout back ok? I have struggled for years to lose this weight and cant seem to do it. Will post after Pictures of me if I ever do lose weight and keep it off sure anyone can lose but keeping it off and not gaining it back is the key. I used to think it was A Curse on me and my life in why I cant lose weight and keep it off and not gain it back as soon as I lose it. Still think that at times. Don't know if a curse could play a part in someone's Health or not I think it could but don't know for sure if that's the case with me or not what is everyone else's thoughts on a Curse? All I ask is to be able to lose weight that's all and cant do it no matter what I have done. I feel as if I am doomed to be fat for the rest of my life I hate that but its true. I have just started attending Church this Past Sunday I went to Church that Morning and will continue to go. Whether anyone wants me to or not I could care less what others say about me going to Church I am trying to better myself and find a place I belong. And get closer to God I feel as if I am too far away from God right now and need to get closer to him through Church and worship services. The People there seem so nice most people are Evil but there are a few who are actually caring and nice people but I don't see that too often. I usually get strange looks raised eyebrows looks of disgust looks of hate if looks could kill I would of been dead a long time ago some looks I get at other times I am completely ignored like I am some kind of Ghost or I am in between the Living and the Dead, I cant say I like that either but what can I do about that nothing absolutely nothing because those people who give me strange looks and raise eyebrows when they see me have already formed their opinion of me and once they label you you cant change that or its hard to change someone's view of you once they already formed their opinion you know what I mean. Alot of people have Labeled me as a Witch I was told this by someone from my past that the reason I am feared is because people think I am a Witch. I am not even going to say that I am no Witch because it wont help matters it would just make things worse so I will leave that one alone. I don't really care what others think of me anymore I am only trying to do right for me and make myself a better person. People are going to think what they want of me anyway and millions of people probably have me figured out or think they do but do they really know me as a person I think not. they just fear what they don't understand and don't get me even though they think they get who I am they haven't a clue. Can anyone on here describe me in one word and be accurate I doubt it but you can try if you want? I probably would disagree with you but anyhow you're welcome to try. Most people think of me as a freak or Monster and even a demon not to mention the Witch part. But Will continue to inform everyone of my process on the meds I am on and how I am doing
Alien Navel Cord
I wanted to ask my pdoc about switching from seroquel to latuda because I'd read it is less sedating, and also weight neutral, but if you all are having sedation on it, it is definitely NOT for me.. guess I shouldn't ask about it then. Me and my gf have HUGE contention surrounding my sleep and I can't sleep any mroe than 8 hours. No naps, I am not allowed. She won't let me, she says its bad for me. So I can't take anything that makes me sleepy. Dammit I was looking forward to asking about Latuda.
AnnaBanana
I've been on Latuda 60mg for 3 years. I get sleepy about 2 hours after taking it. I usually take it with dinner, so that's no big deal. I don't have any sedation from it other than that.
Wonderful.Cheese
I had absolutely no sedation from latuda. I took 80 mg for over a year. I took it with enough food too. But I also take seroquel IR during the day. So go figure. I take 200mg of it AM and 100mg of it in the afternoon. Anyways, latuda was weight neutral for me too. I had high hopes for that med too. I thought I could get off seroquel finally (I have gained weight from seroquel). Looks like I'm stuck on the quel. My pdoc says no further med changes. kittnclaw
I started Latuda a couple months ago and also started an exercise regimen with it. So far I have lost 16 pounds. Since being diagnosed in 2005 I have done nothing but gain, so this is a great change. Eating healthier and exercising when I can has helped so much. My only issue is the akathisia, which is like Restless Leg Syndrome in your whole body. I am on meds to help get rid of that because losing weight is my #1 goal. I might also go back on Topamax for a bit, it never caused me trouble except for tingly legs, but it does help with suppressing appetite and I need that assistance sometimes. Good luck. Some people have no sedation at higher doses. I wouldn't rule it out based on someone else, everyone is different. I'm taking 20mg now with no sedation Edited July 27, 2014 by dnautics
crtclms
Melina, a lot of people here can't keep track of walls of text well enough to read them: it might be their meds, it might be their illness, but it is really hard to read some of your posts. Could you break them down into paragraphs? While nothing is guaranteed, you will tend to get more answers, because a lot of people will see the wall of text, and skip it. I know you said this a couple of months ago, but just so you know, metformin is not merely a med for diabetes Type II, just because that is how your mother uses it. It is used as a fertility treatment, and to treat PCOS, among other things. Also the point of using metformin for rapid weight on AAPs is an attempt to *prevent* diabetes. You really shouldn't just toss aside advice from someone who has been there/done that. That is practically the entire point of this forum, firsthand accounts of various treatments. I'm glad that Latuda has worked out without the need for metformin. But a lot of people here know a lot about meds, and completely blowing them off as if they are clueless is a little disrespectful.
