hagar Posted May 15, 2014 Share Posted May 15, 2014 The FDA announced today that it's requiring Lunesta manufacturers to reduce the recommended starting dose from 2mg to 1mg: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today announced it required the manufacturer of the sleep drug Lunesta (eszopiclone) to change the drug label and lower the current recommended starting dose. Data show that eszopiclone levels in some patients may be high enough the morning after use to impair activities that require alertness, including driving, even if they feel fully awake.Taken at bedtime, the recommended starting dose of Lunesta (eszopiclone) has been decreased from 2 milligrams to 1 mg for both men and women. The 1 mg dose can be increased to 2 mg or 3 mg if needed, but the higher doses are more likely to result in next-day impairment of driving and other activities that require full alertness. Using lower doses means less drug will remain in the body in the morning hours.Patients currently taking the 2 mg and 3 mg doses of Lunesta should contact their health care professional to ask for instructions on how to continue to take their medicine safely at a dose that is best for them. quiet storm Posted May 16, 2014 Share Posted May 16, 2014 I took it for two years and am pretty sure that other than in the beginning few months im not sure it did jack shit other than make me wake up in the morning with my mouth tasting like I sucked on a chrome trailer hitch all night. When I even quit taking it after those couple years it wasnt a big deal. Is this all the FDA is good for anymore? Besides helping pharma companies line their pockets with money by allowing the patenting and selling of "me too" drugs? If I go to the doc and she tells me she's only going to write me a scrip for 5mg of ambien(which the FDA came out a couple years ago and said should be the recommended dose as well) I'm going to tell her to roll up that script and smoke it.
