MisterJoshua
My new pdoc prescribed me pilocarpine for dry mouth. I just started taking it and I notice nothing new. Of course I realize that it may take a while. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this drug for dry mouth and what the results were.
Indigo 'n dye
Years ago I used Salagen with mixed results for dry mucous membranes associated with Sjogren's syndrome. I developed chronic uveitis, so no more pilocarpine. IIRC I took 7.5 mg four times a day. Oral dosages should work within an hour or so...if memory serves. I do remember that the instructions were not to eat at least an hour before or after taking the meds.
MisterJoshua
Thanks for the post Indigo. My new pdoc didn't even tell me the name of the drug he was prescribing, just that it would help with dry mouth. So when I picked up the med I read all the info that came with it because I didn't know what I was getting in to. It doesn't say anything about not taking it around meal times, but it does say it may take 12 weeks to work. I honestly don't know if I can stick it out that long. Sigh. So, I did a tiny bit of googling and found a couple sites which I now cannot locate after my DSL has been out and about overnight. From the best of my memory, the med's absorption is slowed by the stomach being filled with food...simply FWIW. If you are unable to stick it out, what is gameplan B? MisterJoshua
Keep having dry mouth and hope it will eventually go away again. It did go away once, so I imagine it could go away again. This new pdoc I have just pushed the stuff on me. I was ready to try to ride it out.
